Another tree gone!

Fair enough, they may well re-grow in some way but it looks bloody horrible.
They will re-grow, and they do look a bit hideous. One of the reasons is that they are often in areas with older houses that still have telephones, and sometimes even mains electricity, delivered via overhead wires. It also reduces the volume of leaf-fall, that many people complain about. Most of the trees along residential road-sides in Stafford have been pollarded many times - many, many times.

Good afternoon,
Thank you for your e-mail to highways.
A report has been raised and forwarded to the technical review officer. This has been logged as 4002406. The officer will be able to comment further on the matter.
Please quote the above reference on any future correspondence regarding this matter.
Kind regards

Mark

Clearly a send him an email and hope he goes away! email, no?

The "technical review officer" in question will no doubt get back to me almost immediately and reassure me everything was done within their thoroughly enjoyable regulationorativityies realm and the tree will be replaced, within the next month or so.

Middle man Mark has replied, seems the officer in charge of the decision to fell the tree, is unable to contact me directly.

Good morning,
Thank you for your e-mail to highways.
I have checked the status of the report and the technical review officer as said the following:
‘This tree was felled due to it being rotten at the base. Also a few months ago a HGV struck the top of the tree causing damage, thus making the tree unstable and it could have fell at any time. If this happened then someone would have got seriously hurt. We will not be replacing the tree because the location is not suitable for the planting of any sort or size of tree. None of the others are affected by this one at the moment and are healthy, but this doesn't mean they won't have work carried out on them in the future’
I hope the above is of use.
Kind regards

Mark

Anybody here, clued up on whether there would be a report on the trees health prior to the felling (that'd be published online) and whether that report could be viewed on the council website someplace?

Dont believe it will be published online.

An FOI request might yield something, but I imagine it was likely carried out by an on scene assessor/subcontractor so there will likely not be an in depth report on the tree's health.

Just had a tree cut down at the end of Lister rd, it appears to be perfectly healthy, and I have taken pictures of the tree before, after and during the cut down.

The most unpleasant man doing the actual cutting, when asked twice, why the tree was being cut down ignored my question.

They are from a firm called Arboriculture, Phone 0845 3997777, he tried to intimidate me by saying I needed his permission to take photos, I informed him I was on a public footpath and if he had any objections he could call the police, and I would wait here for them, after I had finished taking photos and was walking away he put two fingers up to me.

There also appeared to be inadequate safety precautions in place cars were allowed past with no warning to them about tree felling, paths not signed from the east side, I have photos to show this.

Doe's any one have an email address who I can complain to, and can I find out who authorised it, and why the tree was cut down?

I, and others on Lister rd, would like an explanation of why the tree was cut down and whether it will be replaced, I believe we are entitled to this under the freedom of information act.

so we will see if we get any explanation!

I'm still using the old Google Maps - get the view you want - right-click on the 'Link' icon - (three chain links*) - click on Copy Link Address - paste it where you want it.

* looks more like a pair of glasses to me...

Rumour is that the council's treeperson resigned a few weeks ago.

"They are from a firm called Arboriculture,"

Based in Penkridge?

It does look like the rather nice poplar in Lidl's car-park might also be in some danger of 'improvement'.

The drilling rig was in the bowling alley car-park until today, having moved over the river from Sainsbury's at some point recently.
