I would like to blame other residents in the house for hogging the bandwidth, but I was the only one in at the time... glad to know I wasn't the only one suffering.

I've been having an intermittant connection over the last couple of months or so and had the engineers out several times.

The last one said that it was a fault with our cable somewhere between their green street box and our house. He ordered the 'dig the road/driveway up & lay new cable' job for us, but in the meantime said he was putting our settings in their green box onto 'Maximum' (why wasn't it on this to begin with I wonder?).

Heard nothing else about the cable being replaced but ,so far ,had no problems since he upped the signal being sent to us.In fact it's been working better than it has for years!

I'm sure it's when the engineers are messing around in the boxes trying to fix someone's fault and then disturb all the other connections inside the box.

3 virgin vans on Prospect rd and 1 opposite my house, and my connection is at full speed and stable touch wood!

I think that the Stafford upgrading was complete by the end of December so everyone should have increased speeds but you may need to reboot your modem before it appears.

If this doesn't work, ring VM Customer Service (yeah I know it should be "Customer lack of Service") and they will sort things out for you. I had to do that and it only took a few minutes. I'm now on up to 60Mb.

still on 30mb here but I believe that i was given the "new speeds" when i upgraded to a superhub in around October / november time.

i think 30 is most likely the bear minimum now isn't it?

Is the upstream doubled too?
It appears to be.

Previously getting just over 1Mb up and now on every test its been about 2 to 2.5Mb. Although one testing site said I was getting 103Mb up!

Stafford had not been upgraded at that time so it may be worth checking.

I do believe that 30Mb is the 'slowest' speed Virgin offer now.

You need a superhub to get 30, the older type cable modems only handle 20 I'm afraid. They won't voluntarily upgrade that either unless you specifically upgrade to 30mb or more (your bills should still quote you as being a 20mb customer)

EDIT: - 30mb is now the slowest speed for a NEW CUSTOMER joining VM.

The "upgrade" was merely a switch flick on a set date, but the speed capabilities were there for a long time. I have several customers who managed to get their double speed through one means or another as early as last summer.

30 is fine for me anyway - Cheaper bills mean more to me than faster speeds. For our familys web surfing and my work related stuff, 30 is a rocket compared to what I had to make do with 2 or 3 years ago. ;)
