Ant and Dec in Queen's Birthday Honours

Enjoying a drop of red.
Do you not think it's thoroughly deserved for the contribution they make to quality television and helping to make our society what it is today?

TBF they are very good at what they do, even if what that is isn't really my bag.

Not sure they've really done enough of what that is for quite long enough to warrant a gong, though.

I dont get the Ant and Dec hate.
I personally think that over the years they have excelled at what they do, they make it look easy, they have bought enjoyment to the masses and they genuinely seem like nice decent guys.

And not a whiff of scandal in 20 years of fame.

However, on another subject, I have never really understood why celebrities get Knighthoods.

Of course, some people, who have been celebrities in another field, may do genuinely impressive work in a more important field and then be recognised for that - like Baron Rix of Whitehall, in the city of Westminster and of Hornsea in Yorkshire - who did a lot more than drop his trousers - though, he did do that particularly well, too.

I take the view that celebrities such as these two, are paid a lot of money for doing their jobs - I don't doubt they are good at what they do - even if I do find them nauseating.
I'm told I'm good at doing my job, however I doubt I will ever get a gong for it. But then I haven't made any significant contribution to improve our society or help people less fortunate than me. Just like they and many others who are honoured.
It cheapens the honours system for those who do deserve it.

No significant contributions there or evidence of a lifetime's work raising money for charity. Nice try, but won't convince me I'm afraid.

Its neither here not there, but, they've both only just turned 40 & they've definatly done more for charity & children than your average 40yr old, & quite possibly more than most people do in their whole lifetime.

There's probably a petition somewhere for you to sign & show your displeasure...

I really don't see how you can compare Can't and Dick to Morecambe and Wise at any level. It's like comparing apples and lemons.

Not to say anyone is right or wrong just my opinion. I despise the uk honours system, very few things boil my piss more, people getting honoured for purely doing their bloody job. A young plumber this year got awarded for being a bloody plumber. Celebs getting honoured for doing what they are paid bloody handsomely for. Or getting a flaming obe for kicking a ball around with some african kids on comic relief. As much as I like ant and/or dec their obsequious fawning of the royals over the past 2 years has been embarrassing. They arent alone, they all do it like a Donald Sinden Spitting Image cariacture they beg for their honour, beckham, lenny henry and now the nations sweethearts. As a republican it pisses me off greatly, but it always pisses me off when someone gets honoured for doing their job, if you want to earn an honour run 20 marathons, dont stand in a tv studio endorsing a charity or introducing a dancing dog.

I stress this isnt a comment aimed at people that like the pair, I like them, I just hate the honours system.
