Any Human Heart

Didn't want to post this at first, seeing as i missed the first episode myself, but blimey, how good was that?

I have a question for ToriRat - does your default position hold for this one? I've read one William Boyd book, 'Armadillo', and enjoyed it even though i can't remember anything about it bar enjoying it; have you read 'Any Human Heart' and would you recommend it? Bearing in mind i haven't read anything non-fiction for probably a decade now!

If anybody hasn't seen it and has the opportunity to watch this, which won't take long in our multi-channel multiverse, i heartily recommend it.

I disagree - it was paced differently and did perhaps show signs of it's artifice but Jim Broadbent was exceptional - i admire the eschewing of an overly sensational ending.

Not having read the book, i suspect that in adapting it for the small screen they rather had to wrap up the final part too hastily to spend more time in the middle.

I missed the first part but agree the middle two were stronger than the final one - still the best thing i've seen on telly for a while.
