Any private landlords known in Stafford ?

Hi me and my partner are looking for a flat to rent in stafford that would accept dss and our family cat as we have been living in shared house accommadation for nearly a year now with live in landlords and really need to move as the room we are in is not in good conditions and our landlord wont solve the problems I can give refferences from my landlord and will be willing to pay deposit and first months rent up front. if you could help us we would most appreciate it.

Thanks for Reading
Tam :)

Little known fact about Reading - their museum houses a full scale replica of the Bayeux Tapestry. Just in case you don't believe me,

Staffordshire connection - Made in Leek.

Apologies for the intrusion Tamkins93 - good luck with your house hunt (say hi to steve).

Hi Clothier and Day and Stafford Lettings accept DSS - think whether they accept cats is down to the individual landlords. Stafford Lettings have a one bed flat coming up in the next few weeks just off the Sandon road - let me know if you want their contact details.

I rented with G.W.Heath Residential lettings, hes a private landlord, nice enough just leaves you alone to get on with it, his houses arent exactly top quality so he doesnt really give a toss.

who ever you go with make sure they are registered with the tenancy deposit scheme (TDS) or the deposit protection scheme (DPS) these gov agencies protect your deposit from landlords who may say you damaged the property and not give your deposit back or when letting agents go bankrupt or run off with your deposit as happened with GDH and Turner Property Managament.

Thanks for the help and advice :)
By the way Tamkins with being DSS you qualify for the rent deposit scheme with the council - they guarantee your deposit so you dont have to pay it yourself. Just pop into the council offices on Riverside and ask for an application form - once you have found a property you apply for the deposit and they give you an answer within days. I saw the owner of Stafford Lettings yesterday and she said its ok for me to give you her contact details so if you would like them please send me a private message.

How much are you wanting to spend a month, was looking at rentals for myself (I like to window shop!) and saw this:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-to-rent/property-32057266.html

It says dss accepted in massive letters lol!

i viewed this house the other week. the rent is actually quite cheap for wht you get compared to other places . although they woudnt accept all my pets ..they might accept 1 cat though...
a guarantor would be needed and they would have to be earning about 3x the rental value and own their own home

You could go to Stafford borough council's housing options team for advice - they may know of private landlords as they try to work with them - they also have the guaranteed rent deposit scheme if you are not able to afford the deposit.
Also ask them for a list of all social housing in Stafford it's worth registering with social housing - their rents are cheaper and it's more secure housing and it’s choice based letting now which gives you more choice – also go to the CAB they have a housing specialist

we are looking at spending around 400-450 pcm been to the housing options team before and they said they wont help us as we made ourselves homeless when we didnt our money got messed around so we couldnt pay the rent wich resulted in eviction so thats why we ended up stuck where we are

you could challenge their intentional homeless decision, did you get the decision in writing or did they just tell you that at the office without even looking into you financial situation - they SHOULD take a homeless application - look at all your circumstances - if it is financial difficulties it not intentional they should give you a decision in writing and then you have one month to challenge it - the cab has a housing specialist that would help you with challenging the decison

Im a student and had such a faff trying to find property as I didn’t want crappy shared student accommodation or a pokey flat, most estate agents gave me one look and told me where to go, so I feel your pain!

Good Luck!
