Any recommendations for plumbing / heating?

We have bought a new (very old) house. It needs quite a bit of work. Re-wiring and building-stuff is starting this week. We have tended to choose people recommended by our builder because he's great, we trust him and as he is unofficially project managing the whole job, he needs to work with them. However his preferred plumber is not available until the end of October. It's quite a complicated job - boiler needs moving/replacing, we need extra radiators, bathrooms etc. It is complicated by the fact that there are solar panels in the garden, which need to link in to system as supplementary source. Preliminary research indicates that the solar panels were installed by a company which featured large in Watchdog programmes and has subsequently gone out of business. So we are perfectly well aware that they are by no means perfect but nonetheless they are there and we would like to utilise. Have you experience of anyone you would recommend? Someone who may have a positive atitude to the solar panels (we have done our own sucking-in-of-air-between-teeth) and could tackle this kind of thing?

If this is Rikki's cup of tea then you'll find no one more highly recommended.

He's on the forum so i'm sure he'll respond shortly if he can help.

My advice is get at least 3 different quotes. Don't just go for the obvious person on here just because they happen to post on this forum. I can certainly recommend Parsons, for instance.

If you would like me to come take a look and give you a quote just give me a ring on 07915065842. If you've got panels and want them plumbing in just remember your going to need a boiler and cylinder so your going to need to leave space for them both in your plans and the cylinders / controls needed don't come cheap.

Considering having some new basin taps for my shower room. Changing the horrid gold plated ones for chrome so will need to change the waste, plugs and toilet handles to match. Trying to work out if I can afford it this side of Christmas! Has anyone had taps changed and if so what is a reasonable price for this....

Rikki has only done the one job for me so far (others soon probably), but I wouldnt have an issue reccommending him. Did a good job, reliable, and reasonably priced.

Steve Ross is excellent. Has done lots of work at all 4 of our dealership sites. (some pretty big jobs too). If you're still looking his number is 07860532976. Good luck with your renovations.

Thanks for the suggestions. The Forum has, indirectly at least, solved our problem. Rikki came out and had a look. He reckoned it wasn't exactly his kind of job but put us in touch with another plumber, Alan Parry. Mr Parry didn't seem unduly horrified by any of the ancient oddities of the building and starts work next week. We appreciate Rikki being so straightforward about the job and pointing us in the right direction. The whole place looks a total wreck at the moment...wish us luck!
