Anyone got a Dacia Sandero Stepway?

I think it's a previous generation Renault clio with new body, so should be a perfectly decent runabout. Seen a few about but not driven one.

And that makes it decent..... gawd help me! French rubbish, i'm out!

Never had a problem with a french car, the only people I know who have had issues have been the types who don't stay on top of maintenance.

The clio is a brilliant drive.

We came pretty close to buying a stepway, but ended up buying a used proper car instead. They seem good value for money and seem to be a reasonable enough car.

However, for a quarter of the cost we picked up a much better car which even came with a warranty.

This is a valid point, it's always worth looking at nearly new, pre registered Ect and comparing what you can get for the money. I stopped buying new years ago and now look for a 9 month-ish old. Supersites can have these cars for half of the list price of new.

Small frenchies don't seem too bad mechanically, in fact I had a few of them myself, but the bigger Peugeots, Citroens and Renaults are well known for poor reliability.

Add on to that the shizzle electrics of French cars (big and small) 10 years back - not sure what they are like now.

I went through quite a few Peugeot's and a Renault, 80's-90's, and they were all reliable cars. The last was a 406 2.1tdi and left with 100,000 miles on the clock and still getting 50 mpg. I stopped buying because I didn't like the design of the newer models.

Enjoying a drop of red.

Back in the day I had a Peugeot 305. The one and only fault it developed was that the sunroof winder snapped, with the roof open. So with no way of closing the roof I took it back to Newport Road Service Station who loaned me a Peugeot 604 whilst they fixed it. During the two days I had the 604 the gearbox lost 3rd gear, the heater stuck on HOT, the driver's window fell off it's runners and had to be stuck in the closed position with gaffer tape, This was almost immediately followed by the front passenger window doing the same. The car developed a rather nasty vibration at just about any speed, which turned out to be the offside rear well coming loose as ALL four of it's nuts were loose. As I drove it back to collect my car the front number plate fell off on the forecourt. Apparently they were all like that...

Still not worse than the Citroën XM I owed from new for a year. I bought it to replace a totally reliable but leggy Citroën CX and in its first year it spend 131 working days off the road being fixed under warranty. I didn't keep it for a second year.

I then got a Renault Safrane which ran faultlessly for 3 years and 150000 miles.

All my Pug's came from N.R.S.S, at the time the sales guy, Barry ?, was really helpful. Unfortunately he died, heart attack ?. I bought a 309 gti, two 405's gtx/Mi16 and the 406. I sourced another 406 from Cannock, for an aunt. They all ran without a hitch although after the warranty expired they all went to Derrington Motors for maintenance.
