Anyone know a decent motorbike mechanic?

I have called Jones and Alcock, he's gonna pick the bike up on Sunday and give me an estimate. Said £40 to look, so can't complain. Cheers again for everyones help.

Edd209, no I haven't done a compression test. TBH I'm out of the house for 12 hours a day at the min, and am knackered! Gonna let someone else do it. Just worked out my finances and I'm screwed without it back on the road, I have like £50 to last the month once I take travel into account, so I just need it sorting quick :(

Well it looks like its a write-off, too many problems. They came and picked it up, and fair play to them had a quick look first and asked if I def wanted them to take it as they could tell it needed a bit of work. I sorted a few issues one of them was having with his PC, which offset the inspection fee, but they think I should prob leave it.

Which leaves me looking for a new bike, but from somewhere I have some recourse if there is a prob. They have a YBR in stock, but its just not my cup of tea. May see how much they'll charge to go with me and look at a bike. Rather get a real mechanic to give it the once over than trust my judgement again.

Consider the possibilities. Shuma is walkable. Stafford Motorcycles might well be worth approaching. You've lived without it for a fortnight already though, etc.

Cheers mate, that'd be much appreciated. I'm going down to Jones and Alcock on Saturday to see what they have about, as he'll do me a part ex on my old heap depending on what bike I want. They have a BN125 in, which I like the look of, but they want £1795 for it which is a bit above my budget. I do trust them though, they seem sound.

Otherwise its looking about for something else, in which case I'd be glad of the help. I'm happy to admit I know sod all about that sort of thing, other than 'The chain seems OK...'. There are some interesting looking* bikes about, and I don't really know what I'm looking for.

*No, I wouldn't get that. Looks nice though!

Cheers mate, that'd be really appreciated. Obviously only after a 125, but I do 1000 miles a month so gotta be pretty reliable. On paper the YBR he has in looks ideal, good mpg and has a kick start too which is a great bonus. Just not sure I like the look, quite liked the foot forward riding positin of mine. He also has a BN125, which looks great, but a little higher than I wanted to spend TBH.

Like the look of the Suzuki GZ125 Marauder, but there's something about the last few years models I'm not as keen on. They do great milage though, can get 250 to a tank.

OK, quickie for any bike minded people. What is wrong with this bike? Its been on before and got no bids, and still nowt on this one either. I've called him, seems genuine, but I don't get why nobody has bid!

See, this is the style of bike I fancy. They seem alright on paper too, just unsure on how it'd cope with the milage I intend to do.

I don't know much about these things, but it looks OK - perhaps too OK and that's why nobody has bid so far. His feedback is good. See if you can find someone who's got one. Should it all come off then I'm sure that we could nip to Derby if you want to save the £50, but, as before, we would both have to be masked throughout in order to preserve forum anonymity.

Another dodgy chat-up line.

Yeah, read those. Seems that for every bad review there are a dozen good ones, so can't be that bad. Common theme on the wrong fuel pipe, but that is the main gripe. Ross Verdon over in Hixon are a main dealer, so I assume I could go to him for warranty issues?

I suppose its a brand new bike for £1300, whereas I'm looking at that for a second hand jap one at J&A. However, the benefit of buying from someone local that would also prob be servicing it is quite large. I dunno, can't get down to J&A til sat and the bidding on this closes tomorrow. Bah!

This wasn't there a min ago?!?!? OK, maybe I'm just blind! Have read his feedback, seems fine. Thanks for the offer, but I'll prob just pay delivery. Otherwise its only really Saturday I can go over, and my gimp mask needs washing.

There's still no bids on it, but he'll probably sell it to you anyway afterwards. You have the phone number. i doubt there's a need to panic.

You only have one gimp mask?

Bid on it, got it. Just gotta fetch the bugger now or get him to deliver, Ross Verdon says he can do all warranty work on it so thats OK. Needs a service every 4k I think he said, to keep the warranty.

And yes, sadly only one gimp mask :(

Excellent.

The lift is still available and a simple blindfold would suffice, as well as calming your nerves during the journey.

Thats great, cheers mate. Just gotta sort out him registering it now, so I can ride it. No idea how long that takes? Still find it weird nobody bid, but maybe they were as hesitant as me.

Haven't had anything new since 1976, but I suspect that it can be done online these days. He won't hang about.

I got involved in a car swap last year where we swapped the insurance online in the dealer's and then went to tax the new one, but it wouldn't let us. So, we had two cars, one taxed, one insured, and neither driveable. I walked home and went back when it was sorted out.

Well I'm picking up the new bike on Wednesday, taking the day off and travelling up to Derby. Seems first registration is still done in person? So he needs to go and register it for me once I've looked. For obvious reasons he wont register it til I've paid, or he could end up with a brand new second hand bike.

Although after seeing this I think I may need a second bike :D

Yippee! Brmm, brmm.

Get an address off him. That lock is worth more than the bike and it's only secured to a plastic drain pipe.
