Anyone know a decent motorbike mechanic?

Sore point!

Got there about 3pm, bike looks lovely. Starts great, looks the part. Signed my paperwork, then took it for a quick spin round the block to get used to it. One think I wasn't quite aware of, is how damn big this bike is for a 125! However, even its size should not amount to me being unable to travel above 30. I put about 9kms on it (they said it was MPH, grrr!), and it felt wrong.

So I went back and the mechinic took it for a spin. Came back very confused, said it was like it was restricted, had absolutely no guts. He thinks there is a fuel issue, as it has been left standing a while. He was the one who test rode it originally, and said it felt nowt like that. He's stripping the carbs down tomorrow, wants to clean/rebuild them.

Which means I spent half my day travelling, came so close, but left without my shiny new toy. Gutted is not the word :(

Sorry about that. I was anticipating a glowing report. The path is often rocky, though.

Look on the bright side - your licence is safe until they sort it.

Not long back, damn is it shiny :D

Took it slow home, although TBH thats all I could! Sat between 55-60, had a little more poke but not much. Needs thrashing a bit I reckon, wear it in ;)

Seems nice, feels very wide. Fuel tank is flatter than the last bike, but holds the same amount. Engine is a LOT different, revs completely differently and is a fair bit quieter. Had an issue with a stuck fuel gage coming home (i.e. I ran out!). Seems OK now I've filled it up again, guess they drained her pretty much when sorting the probs out. Much more upright position, which is a shame cos I really slouch on the last one, but feels good handling. Not really thrown it about yet though. Lots to polish, had to get it indoors before it rains!

Nice. Is that an oil cooler? On a 125? How times have changed. Good choice of colour - the red ones are usually slightly faster.

Yup, seems to oil and air cooled. TBH I'm sure its just the 250 with a much smaller bore, seems too big for a 125!

Just seen it in the flesh outside tesco. Looks very nice.

As a side point the girlfriend says you dont own enough facial hair to have a bike like that.

I didn't inspect closely, but I suspect that it was a Westland Wasp, as it did appear to have Naval colouring, although it looked more like a Scout from the distance that I saw it from - very similar, of course, just a matter of ancillary equipment, really. It didn't seem to be as polished as Naval equipment often is, but then they've been out of service since '88.

It looked very shiny when i saw it. However it was still a bike and not a helicopter.

Ah, well, all is revealed, the helicopter was there on Tuesday. I wonder what happened if it was there for longer than the two permitted hours, and some of it was outside the marked bay anyway. Where are the jobsworths when you need them?

Hulihee is the one for me!

Who's going to be the first to go into Max Edensor's and say 'Any chance of a French Fork?'

May I recommend the short boxed beard, shave once a week, trim once a month, a beard for the terminally idle, and devilishly handsome.

You, my dear, are half way between "Franz-Josef" and "friendly mutton chops".

I like to think that I'm more of a lamb chop.
