Anyone read Dutch?

Unfortunately we are attending a funeral in Holland, on Saturday. we have received a 'funeral card' in the post this morning which gives all the information about where we are supposed to be and what we are supposed to do. I am almost certain it is in Dutch, although there is a chance it may be Afrikaans. I don't want to bother the family by ringing and asking for a translation. I wondered if there are any linguists on the forum who might be able to help me.

There is a translate programme available on Google and many other sites just select language from to
English and type in the text

We have our own resident Dutchman in the form of Fonzie-NL....might be an idea to give him a shout!

Hello Fonzie, I think the Google translate thing has it fixed, thanks. It's a bit garbled but just about makes enough sense for me to know where we are supposed to go and what we are expected to do. Do you live in Holland? Anywhere near Scheveningen? We did the big 'dive' there on New Year's Day last year. Amazing place. I couldn't believe how many people turned up. Mostly in fancy dress and usually a bit drunk. And not the slightest hint of trouble. I fear that wouldn't be the case in this country.

Hi flossietoo,
Glad to hear it worked using the "babble...fishy" to get some sort of translation. :)
I live near Rotterdam / Zoetermeer. About half an hour drive from Scheveningen.
But that's only during the weekend when there are not as many traffic jams.

Try May Day morning at Magdalen Bridge at Oxford - after having spent the entire night drinking in some of the finest pubs available to humanity.

Oh, Oxford...

Hmmm...our Summer Ball tended to turn ugly at around midnight. Before then it was frocks, bubbles and fun. Afterwards it was fights, tears and vomit. On one occasion I was put in charge of security, on the grounds that "nobody will hit you." At 2am I left them to it and took refuge under my duvet. The media would have us believe that binge-drinking is a modern problem. I would contend it was happening years ago but because we didn't have cameraphones, nobody found out about it. Or remembered.

The English student has had the reputation of being a drunkard since at least the 12th Century.

When i was there i was town, not gown. Much more civilised...
