I've just heard on Radio Stoke that Beaconside is partly blocked because of an accident.

When walking up by Tesco this morning about 8.40am there was a blue cop van with what looked like armed/riot police in it racing up the Newport Road with it's sirens blaring away as well.

Hope that poor bloke who was run over on Lichfield Road isn't too badly injured.

Well at least it's happening on a Tuesday and there's half a chance the Newsletter will get to run the stories. Usually it all happens on a Thursday or Friday and they miss out!

I drive past when the incident was happening. There was between 6 and 8 armed officers and I saw at least one of them carrying what appeared to be a machine gun. There was about 5 or 6 Police cars attending.

A woman officer was holding a youth who appeared to be mid-teens with his hands behind his back (he may have been handcuffed) and there two other men being held, one of which was being searched by the Police.

Neither me or my wife got chance to take a photo otherwise we would have.

I drove past at the same time too, and there was a young lad being held against a car, one lad on the floor with 2 coppers pointing guns at him, but also saw a fella with a TV camera being moved backwards towards the crossing.

They probably drove past a PCSO using a mobile phone and Staffs Police were pissed off as it was lunchtime, and decided to teach the naughty rascals a lesson!

Also if it was a weekend and nightime the ambulance may take you to Wolverhampton.

I believe they maybe one of those hospitals that need to make sure they have senior docs on duty at weekends

Oh sounds like it's something to do with the youth offending team which is based in the offices near there perhaps?

I only saw loads of police cars, I overhead someone in ASDA saying it was armed police. So much going on today, I'm staying inside for the rest of the day!!

shocking!!!
Gosh that is shocking!

I had to drive to Astonfields tonight at 4pm to leave the car at hubbys works and walk back into town. I heard the news on the radio about the Gaol Road attack as I was on my way there and as I walked back to town along Gaol Road it was eerily quiet with hardly any pedestrians or cars driving past. I know they have roadworks with a diversion, but there has still been quite a lot of traffic in the area each time I've gone down there . Quite scary , even at that time, walking along with only 3 youths and the roadworks men in sight!
