Not sure I've seen this posted yet, but apologies if it had and I've missed it. ASDA are introducing pay and display parking shortly, to be refunded at the checkout...

Will be interesting to see how many spaces are freed up on the parking lot when the parasitic freeloaders who never spend anything in the store are pushed out, and will tesco be watching to see if it's worthwhile to follow suit ?

Parasitic freeloaders? Pretty sure free parking was part of Tesco's planning consent. Thought it was at Asda too.

Yes, if I ever popped into Walsall on my lunch break I parked there. Now I stay at work.

parasitic freeloaders? People merely making the best out of the current situation, as they do at wickes, tesco, etc etc

I've no idea what the "conditions" were in Stafford, or if Tesco have ever bothered even to read them.

Must admit that whilst I want looking specifically for them, i didn't see any pay and display machines....

People have to remember it could be worse.... Anyone ever visited Stevenage and tried to park for free??

Last time I was in Stevenage the Rangers got stuffed 6-0, a rather reckless Ged Murphy got a straight red which probably didna help much......

This was on the cards after Riverside opened. Going to make the parking at the leisure centre even tighter.

This is not about freeing-up parking spaces for Asda customers, it's about making money. By charing £1 for up to 2 hours, nothing will be solved. People will still happily pay £1 to park there and go over to eat at Nando's / shop at Primark etc.

If it was genuinely about keeping it more exclusive for Asda customers, then the charge would be £2 for 2 hours to discourage others from parking there. Asda customers should be quite happy to pay £2 knowing they'll get it back at the checkout anyway.

Will discourage some but not most. they say the charge is because asda customers struggle to find a space but can honestly say never struggled to park. to be fair asda are a for profit corporation and their parking spaces are in a location people are willing to pay for. can't blame them for wanting to maximise their profit

Just hope they allow contactless payments or a few minutes grace to nip in to the store for change.

No, me neither. Had a quick 'man look' round couldn't see any. Although it was dark. Still, the charge doesn't come in till Monday and even then it's going to be difficult to enforce a fine without a machine.

There's been a few occasions on a saturday afternoon when it's needed tricky to find a space.... Certainly no gripes from me in them putting in a charge....
