Ashiana to close after Christmas?

Anyone else hear this sad news ?

Apparently the guy who own all that area said he intends to increase their rent as soon as their tenancy is up, and Ashiana said it couldn't be justified, so said if he does they'll just close.

Seems like a bit of greed on the landlords part, I mean yes it's busy weekends n such, but there's days I walk past n there's not a sole inside.

Paul Reynolds gets that bit richer wonder how many of the little businesses that operate from there will suffer

Do people actually buy tropical fish balloons after a tae kwon do session whilst having a new exhaust fitted eating a curry?

Not quite town , not quite out of town

Agree entirely, but it does keep the places I do eat quieter so I stand more chance of getting a table. Its like Casa, would never go but it keeps 'them' out of 'our' pubs!
I like your line of reasoning (which is a little like mine and Brexit - prices of holidays in Europe may go up, but at least it'll keep the riff-raff out). Every cloud, and all that. ;)

Ashiana is alright. Great service more than anything and not a patch on Rose of Kashmir. I think it still needs to exist.

That said the previous 2 replies from posters I respect stink of snobbery.

It's not snobbery, it's different markets. I've eaten at Ashiana twice, and can see no reason to return as I don't like their cooking and neither did my OH. If it closes however it'll be much harder to get a table somewhere I do like, such as Narvana or Tawa Bridge, so it staying open is a good thing. They'll never attract me back as a customer, but it's hard enough getting a table somewhere I want at short notice without a hundred more people looking for somewhere to eat on a Saturday.

I have very fond memories of Ashiana as it's where my now Father in law used to always take us for dinner when I first met my husband. But we haven't been in years as it's the other side of town (and children have ruined our social life). Service was always excellent and it was the first time I'd ever come across "BYOB" in a restaurant!

Was the first curry house I ever visited in Stafford. Left me completely underwhelmed and wondering what I'd done in moving here! Been back a couple of tInes when friends have had a meal there but never impressed.

Having been a fan of the Rose of Kashmir in its heyday, I've always been disappointed with the food at Ashiana & haven't been in some years. That said, what they seem to do well is deal with large groups & after having truly abysmal food and service at a normally very good Indian restaurant when I was last invited out for someone's birthday I can see there's definitely a place for that in the market.

I generally think Stafford is probably better off with it than without, although I've also heard stories about the owner that set him pretty low in my opinion.

Yeah, I also used to love rose of kashmir, but then I also used to drink strongbow! I think your tastes change a lot as you age, what I enjoyed in my late teens I seem to have stopped enjoying in my 30s. As getting out for a meal is rare I'd rather pay a bit more and have something I really like, but I was very cost driven when younger and RoK did a 3 course meal for £7 back in the day!

That's the same for me. RoK was the first balti house I think, originally where Abdul's was(?) and when I was 10 to 20 it was the place we went if we wanted a cheap meal, but then more and more competition came to town with more diverse offerings, and it didn't seem to keep up when it expanded. It is a shame it may shut but I am sure there are ways to increase its clientele.

I think the Rose was where Vivere is now,

But, I only went there twice.

Originally it was just the right hand half. Then they acquired next door and knocked through. That was about when it seemed to stop being quite so good from what I can remember.
