It's for me Ma!

The Vaio is ok but it desperatly need fan e.t.c cleaning and the DVD drive has died. Sorry to say but IMHO don't buy sony lappys. You pay for the four letters on the logo not the build quality (I can say that i own one)

For Xmas, and i'm no money bags, besides the extra technical jiggery (which *some* older poeple have trouble with), price of the netbook & a screen puts it out of gift £££.

Thanks for the answers so far though people and keep the commin. =)

Could you not get other family members to chip in for it (if they aren't already)?

Its just that for £200 you really won't get much...

The link shoes posted is one of your best bets, but even in there

"Grade B-there are minor marks on the screen which do not affect visibility."

and

"14 day moneyback guarantee, 3 month warranty"

Yeah man, i followed all the links suggested. Have been looking at netbooks but TBH wanted one with normal-ish screen. Can probably go £250 at a fooking push and have been looking on various sites (to many to mention)

Just thought a forumite might point me in new direction.

Not getting a reconditioned Lappy kind of takes away the shiney new toy aspect f it all

Bah you're no fun :v: It'll only fall apart again anyway :keke:

If you shop about then you may get a Fuji Siemens or HP laptop that cheap. Good gear too!

EDIT: This may fulfil your needs. My neighbour recently got something similar from Ei Systems, it's really basic but works, and works well.

Oh and don't forget this:

Gotta agree with Mr Cult on this, I feckin hate Sony lappys! Hardest to get parts for, most expensive if you can. Hell, Sony refused to sell me a laptop keyboard and wanted over £150 to replace it themselves! I told them where to go. This is from my 2 years working in PC repair, so a fair few machines for comparison.

Bit like ntl/Virgin really, dogs danglies when working but the after sales CS is as useful as a truckload of dead rats in a tampon factory.

In some countries that would have been considered good fortune.

Got a second hand Toshiba Tecra 8100 here. Nothing super speed but if its just for browsing the internet it would be fine. Has a DVD drive, 12 gig hard disk, and wireless card with it too.

£80 if interested.

@shoes - Norton??? You serious?!?!

Don't get me wrong its bloody good at what it does, but brings almost all but the very latest computers to a standstill!
Needs to much processing power. I can't see why people pay good money for virus protection anyway, especially when there are perfectly good enough free ones out there.
(personal opinion only, of course)

i think he was joking lol.. i think it's generally accepted these days that installing symantec products on your computers is almost as stupid as installing zonealarm lol..

It was tongue in cheek, it DOESN'T do what it says, screws up everything else and costs a small forune  I use antivir, and to date no virus /me taps wood

lol- i must be slow today!!

Antivir is good but I think AVG 8 free edition is better as it also covers spyware now, and doesn't throw up the annoying big window everytime it updateslike antivir.

Thank god you dont all like Norton! I was getting worried!! The only Norton I like is Graham, but not in a gay way mind!!;)
