went to see this in uttoxeter on monday.. was pretty good - defo had joss whedon's touch to it (i didn't even know he was set to direct it - a right touch, imo)! was a bit long for my liking, though..

the best part of the film was the first 80% - i.e. when they are all assembling.. the banter and relationships between the various characters was quality, but the ending was just a massively long half-hour set-piece.. yes, it was visually impressive, but i always find myself thinking "come on, we know the good guys are gonna win, don't drag it out any more than you have to" lol..

basically, it was good, so i'd go and see it if i were you, if only to give whedon some money so he can keep making stuff..

Out of interest, why Uttoxeter?
it was my birthday, so we went there cos the cinema is pretty nice, and my ol' dears etc. met us at the dapple grey for a big family meal afterwards..

any cinema which sells beer, in proper glass glasses, that you can take into the screening with you gets a thumbs-up from me lol..

I didn't know such a thing existed. Useful to know.

I usually go to Stoke Odeon (s*ithole but easy / free to park) or Vue in Newcastle-U-L (nice cinema but difficult / costly to park) or Stafford (convenient and free to park if you can find a spot locally, but again a bit of a sh*thole).

Ok so we did end up going to see this - I knew I'd like it cause it's Marvel and I have a not so secret "thing" for Robert Downey Jr but all that aside it was a REALLY good film, there were proper laugh out loud moments and though the final showdown at the end was long I didn't feel it was dragged out too much. The film was 143 minutes long but didnt really feel it! Thoroughly enjoyed this and would definitely recommend it to anyone who liked Iron Man/Thor/Captain America etc :)

Oh hell yeah! Although I have to stress that is NOT the only reason I like watching these things....honest :heyhey:

only thing i thought was a bit dodge was...

...the fact hawkeye seems a bit irrelevant.. i don't think they even mention his name once lol.. i can imagine that most people will come out of the film referring to him as "that guy with the arrows that doesn't seem to do much" lol

We went last Saturday. It messed with my head. I thought I was going to see a film about The Avengers. I was a massive fan and even had a Purdey-cut. I couldn't work out who on earth those people were and what they were shouting about.

Those Avengers only pre-date these Avengers by two years -

These Avengers pre-date Purdey by thirteen years.

Hulk Smash!

* Cool - you can even read it!

that's why it's called Avengers Assemble in the UK (it's just called The Avengers in the US) - to try and stop people confusing it with the british avengers!

Where it all went wrong for me was that the suggestion came via a phone call: "Do you want to see the new Avengers film tonight?" I now recognise that it was a lower case 'n' to the new. That, unfortunately, was not made clear in the phone call. I naturally assumed that someone had had another go at an Avengers film and trotted along to the cinema with high hopes that it would be better than the Uma Thurman one.

Charlie Brooker liked it - well, sort of...

Some scientists were worried about a glowing blue cube they kept underground, so Samuel L Jackson had turned up to make things easier by shouting at them. Then the cube went bonkers and spat out a bad guy called Loki, who looks like a cross between Withnail and the sort of grinning pervert who'd have sex with a fistful of Mattesson's liver pate in the window of an apartment overlooking a hospice bus stop. Then some vehicles raced around and everything blew up.

yeah, i just read that yesterday, and he basically agreed with my sentiment:

the best part of the film was the first 80% - i.e. when they are all assembling.. the banter and relationships between the various characters was quality, but the ending was just a massively long half-hour set-piece.. yes, it was visually impressive, but i always find myself thinking "come on, we know the good guys are gonna win, don't drag it out any more than you have to" lol..

...albeit far more eloquently, and with more spite and bitterness :v:
