If the canal bridge stays as it is, it doesn't really matter.
what possible difference could it make?
Capacity improvements generally do attract and generate traffic over time...It could make it worse....
If the large pothole in the centre of the bridge gets any bigger the bridge itself will soon be a thing of the past, then it gets interesting.
Looks like their getting ready for the next stage? (Pic 1)I wonder if the new cyclist-friendly crossing to the canal bridge will EVER be finished?

I'm sure it said it was a 10 week project. It started before Christmas, if I recall correctly at the end of November. If I'm right, it is now into week 28.

This was never scheduled to be finished before December 2014, the next phase is for a bridge across the flood plain to link with Tixall Road, part of some funding secured by the County Council, link here: http://staffordshire.gov.uk/transport/Stafford/Cycling/New-cycle-and-leisure-route.aspx
I think that the main pothole on the bridge has now been filled again. I reported it the first time it appeared and it was filled within a couple of days of my report, which was probably co-incidence.
I'd love to know what 'Potential Local Traffic Management' means on that map!
