Baswich Lane Capacity Improvements

The Eastern Access improvements proposes to consider and potentially take forward the lower cost option of improving safety and capacity issues along Baswich Lane.

What 'safety and capacity' improvements do they have in mind?

If the canal bridge stays as it is, it doesn't really matter.

Is there a capacity issue with the south end of Beaconside? It's one of the few places that seems OK to me.

There's the rub - unless 'Capacity Improvements' for that whole stretch from the canal bridge to the Priory are anything less than very substantial (EDR lite?), what possible difference could it make?

If the large pothole in the centre of the bridge gets any bigger the bridge itself will soon be a thing of the past, then it gets interesting.

Hopefully Ted Manders will be able to explain the Councils Capacity improvement plans at Thursdays meeting at Leasowes

The 'plan' probably involves a 9000% increase in bicycle use for everyone who doesn't have an important job, like working for the council.

Lol. I'm with you. Wheel now falls in the hole as you go over. Will be able to see the canal through it soon.....

I can't see what I'm looking at here, as in, can't see what's being done, I see a map and colourful lines, that's it.

Where Baswich Lane meets Blackheath Lane's the issue, that can't be improved, not all of it anyway, it can only be improved (as it is now being "improved") for cyclists and pedestrians, ruuuuubish!

I suggest we leave it as is, build houses in and around the area, think about doing something about it at a later date, yes, all in agreement say R, ok, motion held, see you all in 5 years time.

I wonder if the new cyclist-friendly crossing to the canal bridge will EVER be finished?

I'm sure it said it was a 10 week project. It started before Christmas, if I recall correctly at the end of November. If I'm right, it is now into week 28.

This was never scheduled to be finished before December 2014, the next phase is for a bridge across the flood plain to link with Tixall Road, part of some funding secured by the County Council, link here: http://staffordshire.gov.uk/transport/Stafford/Cycling/New-cycle-and-leisure-route.aspx

I think that the main pothole on the bridge has now been filled again. I reported it the first time it appeared and it was filled within a couple of days of my report, which was probably co-incidence.

I'd love to know what 'Potential Local Traffic Management' means on that map!

It looks finished now. It's the next stage over the fields which I'm interested in. I wonder how long that is going to take? I imagine much of the work is just getting the concrete bases installed on the various points across the field. Then a crane dropping sections into place?

I think it will be safer to ride down the road over the canal bridge and then turn onto the new bridge than use the new section on the side. How long will it be until the first car crash happens when people go over the bridge and then have to slam their brakes on when someone wants to cross the road?

I wasn't talking about ALL the cycle route, just the part where there put the new cycle/foot bridge in place.
