That is one massive burger!

it wasn't actually that big, to be honest.. that is certainly not a criticism - it was absolutely delicious and definitely excellent value for money - but i just thought i should make it clear that it is "normal" size..

i love a burger, but i actually get put off by the "bigger is better" approach by some restaurants.. the mill at worston, for example - lovely food, and the burgers should be nice, but they are just so big and so thick that you can't taste anything except beef, and it's far too much for even a fatty bum bum like me to finish..

the route 66 burger is just the right size for a lunch time burger.. next time i go (which will be very soon), i'm defo going to pay the extra quid or whatever it is to double up, if it's tea time

If I remember correctly last time I looked into tastecards they work out really badly for the dining establishment - since they only get 50% of the bill - relaying on the fact that they'll get twice the amount of people it, but few do.

It works very well for big chains that can take the hit, but not so much for independents.

Oh, I was under the impression they got money from tastecard to sign up to their service. Didn't actually look into it just assumed.

Thanks for the info.

I did too, so I asked a local business about it. They get nothing apart from advertising, but that advertising is only to people who get half price food so they don't turn a good profit. The idea is that word of mouth will help them get a good customer base but unfortunately those talking about it will mention the tastecard. The only people who really win are tastecard themselves, they just run a website and make an app that shows where these places are but they get all the money.

I'd still use one though, I'm not paying double what everyone else is! It is up to the business in question to stop the promotion once they think they have enough footfall, in this case I expect it quite soon as I'm hearing great things about their burgers. Shame nobody has mentioned the taquitos yet.

Gourmet Society is a similar thing, they had a half price offer on last year £30 odd instead of £70.

The burgers at Bean Encounter are fantastic, as is the coffee. They also sell real ale from a local supplier (i think its Lymstone Brewery).

I hope this business goes from strength to strength.

I've eaten at BE twice now and have been mightily impressed on both occasions. The burgers are delicious, the BBQ beans are very tasty....and I tried some of the choc-covered coffee bean ice cream with warm choc brownie pud last time...it was amazing!

I'm not sure they do...unless they keep it hidden. They had 3 bottled beers available:

The Samuel Adams Lager is very tasty.

rocked to the rafters with local Lymestone Brewery beer, perfect for that cheeky lunchtime tipple. Now serving wine and beer.
Although it doesn't appear on the available menu, as far as I can see.

Maybe it was just a one-off promotion..?

Sat in there now, ordered the 66 with cheese/bacon withe the olives/pickles and a bottle of Samuel Adams. Under £9 with a tastecard so I put the change from a tenner in the tips.

Couple next to me just had a 66 and some sliders delivered, look great!

I'm back!

Had to feed the young un, figured I'd take her. She's a bit sceptical about the food, so ordered her a plain chicken burger and some bbq beans. I've gone for the taquitos, although if I'd arrived earlier they have a very interesting breakfast menu.

For anyone wondering these are the taquitos:

Didn't realise til afterwards I was missing the jalapenos and sour cream mentioned, but TBH I didn't care. I already felt bad I'd used the tastecard so threw them a £2 tip regardless, even the guacamole was nice and I hate that stuff usually! Did find the taquito a bit dry, but used the beans on it and was great. I'll be honest if I'd have been paying full whack I'd have questioned the missing items but I didn't actually miss them til afterwards so....

Also here is the breakfast menu if anyone is interested, no idea when they serve til but fancy the scrambled eggs:
