Bins!

I've just put my green bin out for the first time this year. It still hardly needed to go, but there's stuff in there from mid-December....

Can you move in next to me? We regularly max out our green bin (we don't have the smaller one) and both our blue bins. For a couple and a cat we seem to go through a lot of waste and recycle everything we can.

The significant amount of cat litter I have to put in there probably doesn't help.

Teach the cat to use the loo?

My immediate neighbours have two green bins and would struggle without access to mine a lot of the time.

On the other side, they effectively have three - a standard and a double-sized one - both rammed every fortnight.

We fill the recycling more than the green. Well, I say we, it's mostly amazon boxes and cider cans so I guess I mean me!

I dont drink , but im with you on the Amazon boxes :)

....although theres enough cabling thats been removed from my place this week to build a recycled suspension bridge ;)

Tbh, unless I'm having a clear out, my green bin is always around half full when I put it out.

I could probably put it out once a month tbh, but it'd probably not smell to good.

I've got one of those tiny green bins since my normal one was nicked, and I hate it! Changed my 5 old pillows for new ones last week and they alone nearly filled it .
The blue one is always full to the top, again mostly with cider cans.

My lazy neighbour hardly ever puts hers out, and if she does make the effort its often the wrong one. Then moans that her bins are full.
Stuck her green bin out on the last blue collection, even though hers was the last one in the street to go out and all the others were blue. Thought she would have stuck it back out again this week for the green collection....:ohno::rolleyes:

They’re ridiculous aren’t they? Over the road has one and they’re tiny, probably around 1x1 feet at the top, maybe a bit more.

Have you tried emailing and asking for a larger one?

When I rang them to say my bin had been nicked, I asked for the replacement to be the same size as my normal size one that had gone missing. But was told it's their policy to replace with the smaller ones now. :( Had to use the neighbours bins for a couple of bags (I did ask them first ;) ) when going on holiday meant missing a couple of green bin collections. Would have managed to squash a few weeks worth of general rubbish into the old one, but even recycling a lot this one soon fills up.

Hassle them - you are about to get a demand, not a request, for an increased payment for their reduced services.

The bin men on the round that day reckoned they hadn't slung it into the back of the truck when I chased them down the road, and I'm still watching out for my prevously nicely scrubbed bin, plastered with my house number, to appear outside someones house one bin day. But do also have my suspicions that the odd 'normal' sized bin is taken away on purpose in order to eventually get everyone to end up with the tiny ones!

I generally email customercontactcentre@staffordbc.gov.uk but last time they gave me 01785 619402 to call as I had moved and they needed to update their system.

Hassle them till you get what you want.

Quote the fact that it says here that the smaller 180L bin is optional if you find the 240 to be too big https://www.staffordbc.gov.uk/recycling-and-waste-additional-larger-or-smaller-bins

It also says here that they charge £40 for a 240 Litre green bin, the 180 is free: https://www.staffordbc.gov.uk/faq

So what's probably happened is either your bin has gone walkies or someone has nicked your bin because theirs has.

I 'worry' about that when I put out my almost empty bin..

I’ve had the email below forwarded to me this morning about bins, might be useful information if you’re waiting for your bins to be emptied -

Stafford borough council said:
Subject: Severe Weather Information & Advice - 02.03.18

Please be advised that the waste and recycling service has again been suspended today due to the adverse weather conditions. Although the weather has improved the road and pavement conditions remain dangerous. Additionally the drifting snow has caused some roads to be reduced to a single carriageway and we are also hampered by abandoned vehicles particularly in the rural areas.

Catch-up plans have been put in place from Monday when the weather forecast has improved considerably, this will mean that the brown bin service will be temporarily suspended to allow the vehicles to collect outstanding green and blue bins. Residents can take bins back on to their property over the weekend if preferred but they will need to be back out for collection by 7am on Monday.

An explanatory message has been placed on the introduction for all calls into the Contact Centre and there is also a dedicated webpage for winter information - www.staffordbc.gov.uk/winter-information-and-advice that is being well used.

We will provide a further update when more details are available. In the meantime please do not hesitate to contact us should you require any further information or clarification on the above.
