I have an old boiler and was wondering whether it was worth going for the boiler scrappage scheme. Has anyone any experience? Who might it best to go to for a quote?

Just avoid British Gas, I hear they are very expensive. We have a plumber on the forums, maybe he'll be able to enlighten you.

From what I heard, with the scrappage scheme you can only go with certain companies i.e. British Gas who are a lot more expensive than an independent therefore wiping out the value of the "scrappage scheme discount"

Hope that makes sense.

All you need to do is check your boiler is sedbuk band g or worse and get a quote from a gas safe (assuming your on gas not oil) registered installer. I won't go further explaining as if you google it you will find a far better guide than I can give.
It's quite straight foward though and you can get quotes from any installer you want. Obviousley I'd be more than happy to come and give you a quote myself.

I work at HomeServe, and I'm pretty sure we're about to do it. There's nothing on the website yet, but I'll ask the warranty guys tomorrow.

If anyone is interested in the scheme I would advise them to Act quickly Its limited to 125000 places ( if I remember correctly) On a first come first served basis. More importantly as already mentioned don't use a big company you will get ripped off, even if they are offering even more money off a local installer should be able to beat their quote.
Also bear in mind if you do get the voucher and have the job done you will have to pay the installer the full amount. It's then upto you to claim back your £400 which will take about a month apparently.
If anyone wants any more advice your welcome to give me a ring my numbers on the website.
