It's quite nice in there, but what I always find odd in Wetherspoons is that they don't play music!! It is very noticeable to me, does anyone else agree?

Been in today for first visit and decor and atmoshere are a lot better than Apres.

The food was better presented and cooked than that served in the Picture House even though its the same menu. Yes I know its Spoons but its good basic grub and did the job.

Not sure about the Giant Jenga walls and the blocks are really hard to pull out ;)

Tried to go for some lunch on Saturday but the place was packed and had no seats so went to the Vine instead. Not complaning as is was the first weekend open... The place looked good inside and I like how they had opened it up more to give it a bigger feeling. Will try again next weekend!

For me it embodies neither the noble spirit, nor the gentle scumbaggery of Apres

Have visited twice recently to test the waters. I don't agree with Weatherspoons business practices, so that's a declared bias from the get-go. Previously Forumites have claimed I can't have an opinion on Stafford pubs because I work in a Stafford pub, but I'm ploughing ahead anyway.

The Good - Decor nice, looks nice inside (if a bit wierd in places with the 'Booth In A Cage'), staff were friendly and pleasant, service was prompt. Sitting in front of the fire was very nice on a snowy day.

The Medium - Ordered a tea and a coffee and was then sent to the far end of the bar to await and collect it. Felt a bit odd, since it is neither handed over to you at the bar, or brought to your table. However, it works in coffee houses and I'm sure that when the bar is busy this is a good way of getting the time-consuming-service away from the bar. The cup of tea was pleasant.

The Bad - The food was terrible. Had a big breakfast, the beans were not nice, the sausages were bland, the bacon stringy and fatty, the eggs were not hot and the black pudding was rock hard. A much better breakfast can be had at any bog-standard cafe/greasy spoon. On top of that there were three customers who were, in my professional opinion, drunk at 11:00 in the morning. For me this created a bad atmosphere.

Weatherspoons beware or should I say bar person

Is it still illegal to sell alcohol to a person who is drunk?

Yes. The Act includes an offence of selling alcohol, or attempting to sell alcohol, to a person who is drunk, or knowingly to allow alcohol to be sold to such a person.

The categories of person to whom this offence applies include, any person who works at the premises in a capacity (whether paid or unpaid) which gives him authority to sell the alcohol, the holder of the premises licence and the designated premises supervisor (if any) and, in the case of a club, any member or officer of the club who is present on the premises in a capacity which enables him to prevent it. In the case of premises used for a permitted temporary activity, the premises user in relation to the event notice in question could also commit this offence.

The sentence, on conviction of this offence, is a fine of up to £1,000.

Thats 90% of premises in Stafford without a customer after 9pm on any given Saturday . I notice this is the curse of all Wetherspoons outlets , 'The liquid breakfast crew'

:strange:

I know kids have to be out by half 8, but don't think that is when food stops.

I went in the other day and wasnt overly impressed by the service or food (you can tell its owned by wetherspoons) but I admire the fact that they have researched our local history and considered that in the making of the pub despite the fact its a chain.

One thing that really 'grinded my gears' was the service, when I went to pay for drinks/food the girl behind the bar kept trying to swipe my card (despite it being chip and pin) and was having a massive faff over it, I kept saying to her that it was chip and pin and she just stared blankly at me like I was the idiot! She then asked me rudely for ID (as she had swiped my card and need proof of ID) it was lucky I had it with me. Anyway moan over, I know it doesnt matter but it really annoyed me how incompetent and rude she was.

I think I'd rather spend time in my local and support them.

I went in there the other day and encountered quite possibly the dimmest bar maid ever...

First of all ordered some food, which was a faff because the table was one of those brass ones (with the lethal lampshades above to hit your head on) so gave the table number next to us but trying to explain that was in one ear and out the other. Then ordered some drinks which went something like:

"Orange J2O and a diet coke no ice please"
"It's Pepsi, is that OK?" (agh! Yes, its the same stuff)
"Diet or normal"
"Diet"
"Do you want ice?"
"No thank you"
[barmaid promprtly fills glass with ice]
"I didn't want ice thank you"
"Oh".

Then had to pay - came to £13 something. Handed over £14. Barmaid types it in and till says how much change to give. She then stands there for an age staring blankly at the money in her hand, then the till, then the money, then the till... Eventually the cash went in and I got some change which I hurled in my wallet without looking:

"I gave you £1 too much change"
"Did you? I've no idea, I didn't look"
"Oh. Doesn't matter".

All quite cosmic.

Previous visit just wanted a coffee and the collect at the end of the bar system was really slow. They could do with more than one machine and were doing the drinks in a different order to the queue of people waiting for them which was causing confusion when people were having drinks thrust at them they weren't expecting!

We must have has the same barmaid, we went in on a late sunday evening and were a massive party of 20, when I ordered she asked the table number (we were the only people ordering food) and wouldnt accept the 'massive table of 20 in the corner' as a table number

Same happened to me at the Radford bank, surly barman asked for table number went back to look for the number, told by someone else to look on the vase for number(which had been rubbed off). Went back and politley ordered but I thought the barman disintrested(food was ok but bland and won't be hurrying back)
