John Marwood

I ♥ cryptic crosswords
As long as they don't ban schools in Rugby

Those sixth form girls in their long skirts....

Well.....

It warms the heart

What's the point in rugby without rugby tackling !
I used to play rugby when I was I school
.nothing better than slamming someone to the ground to release some stress.

I can't really see the point of rugby without the tackling. They could maybe make it 'safer' for tackler and tackled by saying it had to be one to one, but I can't see how they could do away with it completely.

Scrums? Now there's something they could do something with. They rarely go against the head anyway; they're just a way of restarting the game after an infringement, and with 16 forwards in the same 9 square yards of the field, gives the backs some room to work in. Just make them uncontested with the scrum half feeding it to his own hooker.

That would just essentially be a tap penalty by another name.

Got to have a scrum - as annoying as they have sometimes become - it's a crucial part of the game, precisely because it herds the forwards together. Whether the ball goes out to the backs or stays in with the forwards makes it unsettling for the defence. Unsettling for everyone, including the spectator.

This is what makes Rugby Football a far superior game to the American version.:P

I wouldn't disagree, but until refs start penalising 'not straight', you might as well have uncontested scrums.

Anyway, remember this?

Just one area where the American version beats rugby.

Played rugby at school for 5 years, never saw a broken bone until I returned to playing rugby at university after a two year gap. First broken bone was my own collar bone, that said I still love the game but it's a young persons game. I received more injuries playing football during my 2 year gap from wild tackles so no sport is not without risk.
