hi all
i'm new here, i hope i'm posting this in the right place. i'm from stafford but have lived away a lot and I now live near derby but come into stafford regularly, i can't keep away! And, as i can't find a decent hairdresser over derby- way i wonder if anyone can recommend a good one in stafford who can cut well.

Here's hoping for some replies

Hi Crazy me welcome to the forum. I use HCUK on Crabbery Street and have been really pleased every time I've been there.

I've used the Hair Factory recently on Burton Manor and had really nice cuts with them that have lasted well - a miracle

I use the Hair Lounge on the Lichfield Road island, the girl who does my hair, Tara, is fab and always does it exactly how I want, for very reasonable price, definitley recommend :)

We go to Francesco Training School (The Printworks) up the alleyway from The Apollo. The trainees are under constant supervision and the senior staff/teachers do a lot of the work,so you get the equivalent of an expensive cut at a fraction of the price.
Also been to Francesco Academy, near to The Sun pub,and they do a brilliant job. Bit more expensive than the training school as they are more advanced (But still nowhere near the price of the Francesco Salons!)

Been very pleased with both places and would recommend if you have quite a bit of time, as it does take longer than usual .

I go to Laura from Girls on top, opposit the prison, she's excellent, and reasonably priced.

I have an excellent young home hairdresser, she really is very very good (I have very long locks which I am very precious about) inexpensive, technically excellent, not scissor happy and will do as you ask as long as it wont look rediculous on you. The only thing is she does get booked up as she's very popular. she is on FB at http://www.facebook.com/groups/121418417947540 and you can see before and after photos.

just realised you live in Derby so home hairdresser is no good unless you're at a friends. sorry

The francesco academy by hte cinema is good, but can take anhour and a half - 2. Prices start at £11 I think for a cut. Koo is very good and quick, its as you are going towards the stone rd by the wagon and horses and there is a beauty salon too now!

It does depend who you get at the academy though. I've had 2 very good cut and colours there and 2 nightmares.

once at the academy by the Sun - they cut 5 inches off by mistake - that cant be fixed. I went there for years with only one mistake and some excellent cuts but it does take time - the best thing is to find a class that is in week 8 - or more of the 11 and then they are faster and more accomplished, not open on saturdays. but my qualified home hairdresser is the same price and much more convenient and very clever.

My girlfriend uses the one next to Couture ( i forget the name of it now) but she has always rave about how good they are and the owners both used to hold senior positions within the Francesco Group.

I can reassure you that, should you Google 'hairdressers in Stafford', close your eyes and stab a finger at one of them at random, you will have a better experience than my own most recent one at Capability Brown in Newport. I asked for a cut and colour. Evidently I should have specified 'and dry my hair afterwards, please'. It just wasn't discussed. I was still waiting for the dryer when they relieved me of that apron-thing and indicated that I should make my way to the cashdesk. Which was surrounded by lots of the particularly well-dressed, groomed and glossy women who make me feel inadquate even when I am not dripping.
My stylist ushered me out onto the street with sopping-wet hair having done that mirror-to-mirror thing so that I could verify that it was equally wet at the back. They charged me £80-something for the experience and I thanked her. And left a tip. And realised that in many ways, I am just as screwed-up and inept as I was at 13. I haven't been able to face a hairdresser since. My hair is mid-way down my back and I am forced to accept that I am going grey.

Ask the lovely Laura to come to your house, she's fab, I too have long locks and am greying but she manages to turn my Catweasel into repunzle everytime, Sounds like a horrific outing in Newport. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=355576757785807&set=a.355576747785808.94198.100000004560542&type=1#!/profile.php?id=608160697

I am told the hairdressers opposite the Gatehouse is very good - just had a refurbishment. It is not cheap.
