Car park bumper cars

wanna see my snake?
So there I was, happily walking across the road near the guildhall when I hear a lound bump. I turn to see a silver hatchback has reversed into a parked car in a disabled bay, that the driver is still sat in. Dumbass, I thought, they'll get an earfull now. However, they decided against this course of action and instead drove off. They saw the guy getting out of the car as they drove past him to leave the car park, yet still decided to drive off. I'm pretty damn sure they saw me as well, while I memorised their number plate, but they didn't seem to give a monkeys.

So, what will happen to them? If its just a car park prang I assume its still leaving the scene of an accident? It was an 08 plate so not an old banger, and also more likely to be taxed/insured. The guy who got pranged has all my details anyway, I expect a call from plod over the next few days.

I'll follow this with interest as a similar thing happened to my mate Gilbert a few years back though he is not disabled he suffered similar treatment as the guy drove off. Sadly when the police asked the alleged driver for a statement he denied all knowledge, result was 'end of enquiries........:xmas:

Well they have a witness, and hopefully CCTV footage. Can they just refuse to say who's driving? I'll be keeping an eye out in case I see them again :strange:

With you as an independant witness the insurance co's will sort this one out...

Really the other driver should get done for leaving the scene of an accident but in reality nothing will happen on that score... the cops are far too busy with "more important crimes".

Exactly, in Gilbert's case the old bill were in no way gonna send CID or SOCO around, quite simply if he wanted to pursue it then he was on his own although he used the quoted crime number and his insurance company were ok to proceed repairs and it seems they did not go for the other driver........:xmas:

Does it vount if the prang happened on private land, and did the driver break the law about leaving the scene of an accident as the car park is not a public highway?

Anyone hurt? is the 1st question the police ask, if stolen vehicles are involved they may dig a bit deeper however if every minor incident was followed thru' 999 response time would suffer......:xmas:

Take your tax disc off the windscreen next time you park on a council car park and you'll find out that the law applies there, just as on the highway.

My GF had a spate of these earlier this year. The first was when she was stopping at mine one week-end she parked on the street and someone scuffed her rear bumper overnight, whoever it was must've been on the wrong side of the road, £95.00. The second one was on Eccleshall High Street, a week after having the first one sorted, the other side of the rear bumper this time but the other party left details under the wiper and coughed up with no problem. Then about a week after that she parked outside mine whilst we were away for a weekend and someone dented the rear panel £450.00 this time.
