Caravan Club Sites or Camping Sites in Staffordshire

As a frequent weekend gypsy - we visit many camp sites at weekends - does anyone else? and is there any places people would recommend or not recommend ?

We often go to Blackshaw Moor in Leek (Caravan Club site) - which is great and not too far away from 'home' :stafford:

We wouldnt recommend Lower Lacon in Wem - but that is my personal opinion - cold manky showers etc ...

We get away as much as we can along with my brother, sister and their respective families. we love it!

We shall look into these sites you have suggested, are they child friendly???

The last trip was to the Green Man in Hixon. A very nice pint, good food if needed. Has a 9 hole pitch and put, play ground and is very quite trafficwise.

Steve and Marion are the owners and are very nice people.

Here are a few useful links

What sort of site do you prefer? Bars, clubs, basic? And are you in a tent or Caravan? I'm assuming caravan as you go to Blackshaw Moor?

I know a few nice campsite within about 1 1/2 hours, but we are tenters so avoid sites that take vans I'm afraid :)

Aky - yes Blacksure Moor is child friendly - has a playground on site. Thanks for your suggestions I shall make a note.

Kyoto49 we tend to like the quite life - and we are caravaners - used to tent for years but we had so much kit we ended up caravaning. We like pubs on site - but not essential. Just as long as its clean and away from home - when you have worked all week you need to chill lol.

A bit further afield but this is a decent site with spotless shower / toilet blocks and is only 5 mins walk from town.

A bit nearer to home just past Llangollen is this one

Decent pub with covered outdoor seating area 5 mins walk away and you can catch a steam train into Llangollen from here too, something different for the tiddlypeeps.

Happy camping.

Having been passed it a million times, i've always wondered what it's like at Silver Trees. Maybee it's a bit too close to home but what a great location.

Only ever been on the outside looking unsuccessfully in but it may well be rather good.

I knew they didn't take tents but thought they did have pitches for caravans.

Shows what i know.

Looks a nice place though.

Spent a night at Silver Trees back in 1995... it had touring pitches then but that may well have changed. Used to be an outdoor pool in the valley but they now have an indoor one which i believe you can hire privately and lock the door for your hour. There is also tennis courts but little else that I can remember. 'twas very nice though opening the curtains late at night and seeing the van surrounded by deer.

I could even tell you all something totally laughable but not sure I should share it. Ahhh what the hell... said night was my honeymoon of marriage number 1! Times were pretty hard so a night on "the chase" was as good as it got! :D

Pillaton Hall Farm, Penkridge is a great campsite with a good play park for the kids and fishing lakes if there are anglers in the party. Unfortunately they are not open until next March having closed for the winter period. I understand local takeaway places will deliver to site and the chippy in Penkridge is a belter.

Small Batch at Ashes Hollow (near Church Stretton, Shropshire) is a really well located small quiet site, with 2 pubs in walking distance, and a footpath from the site right up on to the Long Mynd. Pretty sure they take caravans.

If you are ever in Dorset, I would really recommend Hillside, on the edge of the New Forest. Not walkable to a pub, but in a really interesting area with loads to do, beaches/forest.

Enjoy!

Try this site:- http://wharfcaravanpark.co.uk/wharf-tavern

Really quiet and next to the canal. The adjoining pub is also very friendly too.

For people just looking to camp, I can highly recommend Lathkill Dale Campsite near Bakewell.

Ignore the bad reviews IMHO, I love this place for its peace and quiet - all of the picthes are quite private because they are all separated by hedgerows. There is a nice pub in the village about 5 mins walk away. The showers at this place are warm but not too many, however we went one weekend when they were full and all was ok with them so no complaints.

If there is a group of 6 or more, ask for the "penthouse" section.... :)

EDIT:

Oh and each section gets a picnic / beergarden table / seat thingy-mi-bob too which is good.

You can camp right next to The Anchor at High Offley. Phone beforehand to check that the pub is actually open during your planned visit. If I have mastered the cut-and-paste thing correctly, details should appear here: http://www.caravancampingsites.co.uk/staffordshire/anchorinn.htm

True, but she's a funny old bugger though. A small group of us (about 20 or so) used to camp there from time to time, last time she wouldn't let us put our rubbish in her wheelie bin. Said that if the council knew she had camping rubbish they would raise her rates. Haven't been back since.
Thought country pubs needed the business.
