If you do take it out, then you might find that it has gone 'out-of-phase' - the little black lever should be as shown in the picture above, with the keys removed - if it's 180 degrees out then you can have trouble withdrawing the key..

I've had cylinders do that a couple of times.

if i struggle to get the lock out then it will be a new door to be fair, but i get the feeling it may be more difficult cause i am sure my door locks in 7 places which will be an arse if i replace the door

will most probably be what Gramaisc has linked too, really easy to change just undo the screw in the side and turn the key a bit and it will pull out.

nice of you to point out Rikki, if i keep the key in the lock as i pull it out surely it would come out a lot easier, not to find a place that sells the locks lol

That's the thing, there are different lengths, though, depending on the thickness of the door. And you can have a brass or nickel finish usually. You can get them with a thumb latch for the inside, so that you don't need the key to lock it when you're in..

very true just spotted that's for the 30-30 doors, but the thumb latch does sound spot on too need to now measure the thickness of the door and find a thumb latch one

I got a load of thumb-latch ones from Screwfix - I had to fit them for fire-egress, so that you don't need to find a key to get out in a hurry...

a quick reference point if a door is say 30 - 30 or 40 - 10 - 50 are these number in millimeters or are they a reference point for manufacturers, with my door i have to take the handles off to get at the lock, I didn't pull it fully out as i have not got a new lock at the moment to replace but did feel like it moved.

Unforunately the 'load' was exactly the right amount for the number of doors involved..

Possibly try a Screwfix inmate, Locks & Latches or Neville on the Market..

I will measure the lock before i go anywhere to be honest and if worst comes i will just lock the door and use the other door, but i am liking the latch lock method so will replace the other door too when i get round to it

thanks, its the size that is bugging me now cause that one is 35/35 until i measure my lock it is going to be a stab in the dark really, but between my key snapping in my bike lock and this i feel i am getting close to amateur novice locksmith type lol

to be honest this looks a spot on thing, http://www.langtoninfo.co.uk/showitem.aspx?isbn=B001NEK6K6
but for that kind of money which is not including the monthly fee i would want a cleaner to pop round once a week and have breakfast in bed lol

I looked into that sort of thing when I saw a posh woman get soaked as she spent ages locking up the front door in the pouring rain and then just click a thing in her pocket to unlock the entire car. Why can't we have central locking for houses, I thought? You can, but for some weird reason, it seems to be dead expensive. However, I'm sure you could bodge up something from car bits...

Are we there yet?
Dear lord, missed a bit here ain't I?

I use AutoCAD 2011, trained in 2d and self taught the 3rd side of things :)

With the door lock, I'm not as familiar with the designs used, however Gramaisc's advice should se you through that one. Screwfix is a great place for hardware such as that, alternatively do you know which manufacturer made it?
