CCTV Installation

But you don’t know what our needs are.

So how do you know whether it’s over the top or not.?

We were just asking about professional installation, what’s out there.
We know nothing about it and don’t want to be sold something that we don’t need.
Or conversely, not sold enough for our needs.

We just wanted a bit of advice, but the replies were to do with DIY stuff, not what we’re looking for.

I understand completely, as you have already stated , everyone's needs can be very different.
That setup I posted may be fine for myself , but I agree , without a visit from an installer to assess your property it may possibly be useless for you.

Give this company a call.

Shes a fully qualified electrician and CCTV installer.
Ex police officer too, very professional.
Prices are very competitive and will visit to assess your requirements and give a free quote.

Again, sorry If my first recommendations wasn't what you was looking for.

thank you @proactive and @joshua

Husband will call today.

Any idea how much a professional job will cost (pm if you don’t want to put it on here).

We’d like one that zooms in very close and also one that can be viewed remotely.

@perry081064 apologies if my reply was rude.

Sorry Carole for deviating the thread with foolishness. :embarrass:

(Also, when that Gatling Gun fires up it leaves mountains of brass shell casings all over the place, … just not practical.)

I use a Homeguard camera which is connected direct to the router via a wire. It can be moved up/down/sideways from an app on the phone. Nothing like the system you clearly want, but very handy for monitoring what's going on when I'm away. It's pretty old hat technology now, but is still going strong even after being on for several years.

.

Don’t be daft, it’s just me being grumpy for which I apologise.
It’s normal for a thread to get derailed.

For various reasons we’re keen to get a system up and running and I was anxious for information.
Got someone coming tomorrow to have a look so hopefully things are moving in the right direction.

...just a quick bit of advice.

Dont bother with a lot of the wireless ones , even some of the expensive ones drop connection a lot.

you are looking for wired or Power over ethernet .

PoE seems the logical way to go, single cable to run.

I specced a system for a customer many years back, but he wanted to clearly see 200m in pitch black and spend very little. I told him where to go! That said current systems look rather impressive, so much so I'm not sure I believe them. I do have a 50w IR floodlight round here somewhere, was for the back of a shop but never fitted. The idea was it would illuminate everything for the cameras without giving the people below any extra light to work by, not sure if this is a viable solution if you do need to see longer distances but I'm sure your installer will know more than me!

Yep, we tried Arlo and Blink. Both fairly sluggish, Arlo especially as they insist on using their awful basestation for them to connect to rather than connecting to your own WiFi (on which we spent a pretty penny).

I picked up two Blink cameras on Prime Day, going to send them back as they’re honestly rubbish and I’ve got a stack of Reolinks from a lucky job lot auction to use now.

The only caveat of PoE is you need a switch or injectors for it. And those cheap £5 injectors are not a terribly good option as they basically just send power up two of the wires rather than following the actual standard. Great way to kill equipment

Thank you @joshua
This was exactly what we were looking for.
We had no interest in doing it ourselves, we wanted a professional company to do it for us.

Unlike other companies, Cress were the only ones that rung us back and wanted our custom.
James came to quote and was just so professional and knew instantly what our needs were.

They came to fit yesterday, two cameras at the front and and two at the back.
Derek Cresswell came himself to do the fitting.
We’re really pleased with the whole process from initial phone call to installation.

Thank you for the recommendation.

A few posts under my belt
We bought a cheap cctv package and installed it ourselves, so we don't have any sort of maintenance contract so if it breaks, we fix it. Image is clear and has helped us out in the past. However we do have Cress in to look after our intruder system and they are always prompt and courteous, so we second the recommendation
