Cheap 2nd hand cars?

Looking at the possibility of buying a cheap 2nd hand car to take the kids on holiday next month as I've given up on my car being returned to me finished by my brother in time.

The place on Stone Road by the roundabout has lots of cheapies, does anybody have any experience of buying from here?

do you mean bristol street motors, the ford place? if so, i bought a car from there last year, although it was a new one and i believe the second hand sales are a totally different operation, so don't know how they compare.. for what it's worth, i had a good experience and couldn't have wanted for much more, though others are more critical..

I took it that he meant the car-lot where the Afford Rent-a-Van place used to be, by the entrance to North Place - but I have no experience of them and so I omitted to comment on them.

i have no idea where you mean, but i'm pretty sure you're right.. i didn't think he really meant bristol street, as A) most people would know it as "bristol street motors" and B) i can't imagine there are that many really cheap second-hand deals to be had, so i figured he meant elsewhere.. still, it is on a roundabout, and on the stone road, so i thought it was worth a punt! (or should that be a euro?)..

When you get to the end of Rowley Street it's on the right, just as you're about to enter the roundabout. It seems to have been a car-lot since Afford moved up to near the Tip a few years ago. No doubt it will be 'apartments' when the upturn comes. Google Earth still shows it with the vans visible. The factory almost nextdoor seems to be awaiting redevelopment these days as well. There is another similar, but smaller operation about a hundred yards into Co-operative Street. No recommendation is implied ( as I have no data ).

They have some sub £1k cars, many sub £500. I'd say usually about 12-15 or so parked up, although I've never really paid much attention. No idea on the quality though, soz.

How do I edit this?
I can't comment on the place either (i know how useless are we) but there's a similar establishment up on Co-operative Street (past the ambulance place and right), that'd be worth checking out twhile you were up that end too. There's also one attached to the back of the Reynolds centre, but I know of several people who've had poor experiences with them.

That's R & B Motors, 74 Co-operative Street , 255921. They usually have about a dozen, or so, cars in at a time.

I don't know how much it costs. But have you thought of hiring a car, especially if you've already got a car. At least the car company would be responsible for any kind of breakdown etc... and you don't have the hassle of trying to selling the car on, mot, tax, documentation, insurance etc... as thats all someone their problem

Cheers for all the replies, the place at the bottom of Rowley St is the one I had in mind, they also sell on Ebay but have a very low feedback rating which is a bit worrying, member since 10.08.08 and a rating of 3?

I dont think I can touch a rental car for another 12 months due to a DD conviction.

Another place is Dave Smithers, top side of FMS (up towards chippy ). Sis in law has bought off him successfully before.

This is the Stone Road roundabout boys, but I can't get the stock search to do anything for me. There is a mobile number there, though.

They also don't appear to have a landline, at least not on their website which is also a little worrying

Stock search works, but you need to scroll down further to view, looks like the sites not been updated for a while as it's a different mobile and no cheapies in stock.

So it does. Maybe it was working all the time, but just didn't look like it. Nothing that I would call cheap there.
