I am informed that the Haughton lights are turned on on Saturday December the 10th - and remain on until January the 1st.

There may well be other light-related events in the area.

Is this a general Lights Swtich-on thread or Haughton in particular?

I wanted to say (regarding Stafford Town lights) that, i fear they've last years "entertainment" again this year, it was a massive horse shit show last year.

Well.... personally that was even more underwhelming than last year - and that was saying something No real build up... no big crowd sing a long. Lights came on.... fireworks not as great as last year,,,then..... that was it... all done. People started dispersing pretty quickly..... until the Motown act came back on at which point people started to hang around again.. 3/10..

We looked up and thought that's odd, when did the lights go on? then a few fireworks went off, and all that was left was hook a duck at 5x the 'prizes' value.

Enjoying a drop of red.
Have to admit both myself and proactive jr were very disappointed by it.

Still, soon moved on with a nice meal and a lovely bottle of red in The Swan shortly after with Mrs p joining us.

Thanks for the positive review about The Swan, I hope you liked our Christmas decorations this year, our elves have worked hard to get both The Swan and The Bear looking festive

Yes the fireworks were underwhelming but the Magic of Motown were very good (seen them at Buxton last year and well worth going to see).
I must say the Christmas tree in Market Sq. is really nice and with Shire Hall lit up it looks very good.

To each their own.

This year (imo) was waaaaay better than last, more people (i'd prefer less if the truth be known) and you can keep your fireworks, not so bothered about those (money up in smoke, etc) and who wants to hang around in the cold anyway, after the event?
...i was straight into No.7, though it was packed, so went to MV instead then back into No.57.

Great night, i thought.
