Millar Sandy have been instructed to market The Stafford Cinema, Newport Road, Stafford, by the freeholder, Eros Properties Limited. Built in the 1930s as an Odeon in a style typical of the time, the property is prominently situated at the south end of the town centre close to the new Riverside leisure development and provides three screens with a total seating capacity of 610. Subject to the appropriate planning consent, the building would be suitable for alternative entertainment uses including a nightclub, restaurant or bar and is available for either purchase or lease with an asking guide price of £750,000. The property includes two small retail units which have been producing a rental income of £14,500 per annum by way of sub-lettings.

This being Stafford, why don't they just flatten it, the usual fate of anything old and worth saving.

No offence but most who visit to complain about and as buildings is more SBC civic centre than say the swan.

it is not a pretty building at all.

Would love for them to re vamp it and turn it into a cinema like the everyman in the mailbox, something different but still utilising what it already has.

I've already aired my views on another thread so now it may be able to be discussed properly ( I live in hope)!
A music venue with a capacity big enough for some decent bands. The Gatehouse takes less than 600 in fixed seats. This venue would give us another option.

Would it be logistically awkward for itinerant players? They often seem to arrive with stacks of gear - is there a back way in from the green area behind?

No offence but what does that sentence even mean?

My grandmother was not tall, not at all tall.

That building is handsome, it's there for all to see. It is not at all not so.

Someone will decide it's cheaper to demolish than sandblast the exterior and refurb the interior.
Unfortunately in £:s:d terms they would probably be right. The high ceilings will make it expensive floor space.
The culture of destroy will prevail.

It's where my mum and dad met, celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.

We are entitled to our opinions and for me it is ugly and dirty looking with ugly red brick and concrete.

Inside is worse although has some charm. Anyone who has been in there in recent years complains about the cold, the toilets, the smell and most of which has been posted on here.

some nice memories for sure but as a venue it is truly dated and roll on the new cinema.

plus if Millar sandy are looking after it expect it to be empty indefinitely as they couldn't get rid of a cold.

Maybe the could be an offer on the old, old, library and the cinema and some nice rich person could buy them both, do them both up and give us an instant cultural quarter with a museum, performance space etc

Been to this place a couple of times and that's what made me think of a music venue. The O2 in Manchester has a capacity of 3,500 and the building in question would probably be about a third of the size of this. In the last couple of years I've been to sell out gigs in venues of less than a thousand, where the acts have been playing stadiums within days.

Regarding @Gramaisc point about access - there is a point next to fiveways insurance or an exit next to the old roonys barbers.

Difficult to unload gear from a decent-sized truck at either of those, though.

    RIP that building.

I hate to say it, but it's inevitable.

Prepare for the hazard(!!) word to be bandied around on several occasions; before it's fate is sealed.
