I have discovered two interesting* differences between my original camera and the current one.

1, The new one doesn't retain the time/date setting when the batteries are removed - the first one did.

At least one of my cameras had a backup power supply that ran the cameras clock functions while the main battery's were removed. It was also charged from the main battery's when they were fitted.

Not sure how long it would last though without main power installed. It may be the backup supply that has failed on your camera?.

I presume so, the other one would hold it happily whilst the batteries were removed and charged overnight. This one loses it instantly.

It also resets some of the settings to the defaults - which is why I accidentally flashed @Goldilox in a foreign location.

I can live with it, though, it used to last around a month - now, it hasn't been charged since the end of June and still doesn't even have the battery warning up yet.

It has proven to be much more useful for certain things, like railway exhibitions, where the 'remote' viewfinder' is very useful, not having to have your eye stuck to the back of the camera - almost periscopic in action.
