If there isn't another lockdown in January I think it'll only because the MPs don't vote for it, it's going to be carnage... 2 or 3 more months is all we need to wait, not a stupid 5 day break to kill our relatives..

I'm expecting a spike before then, the way I've seen people behaving when I've had to go shopping.
Had to go to the retail park the first day the lockdown ended (after a stupid idea of washing hubbys pillows resulted in them being binned ). Went in Asda first , and was so scary that got out of there quick and went to a slightly less manic Next.
It was like 'Lockdowns over, Covid is over' mentality :ohno:

I've had an email from the school saying that any contact with confirmed cases from this point will mean self isolating over Christmas, they're urging kids to get tested before going to school if they have even they just have runny nose.

I think it's so the teachers don't have to spend the holidays in quarantine, though if they're going to do this lifting of the rules it would at least be helpful if they extended the Christmas break so that all those infected don't end up back at school and work at the very point they become infectious.

I really wish I could just go into hibernation! Wake me up when it's all over.

Importantly this is a two dose vaccine - never a great thing, and in fact that is... no f**k that...

It is therefore essential to know who has had it when - hence coordination with GPs. It's really impressive that such a huge logistic feat has been managed so quickly, so a bit of kudos to the managers as well as the arm prickers wouldn't go amiss.

Just f**king good news all round.

But remember kids, this is just the first 400m of a 4x400m relay. And you might remember the first time your overbearing PE Teacher informed you that, despite your previously desperate interactions with the discipline, the 400m isn't long-distance and is supposed to be a sprint...

Even with a jab you will need a booster after two weeks and it will be another 28 Days Later (finger-guns to the tin-foil-crowd), till you're all good.

That means keeping up the good work - only go out when necessary, keep contact to a minimum, keep your distance, wash hands after each contact, wear a face mask when you need to be inside.

There has been a lot of noise about face masks, but this -

- is as close to noise-cancelling as you can expect with... them.

I believe it’s 2nd jab at 21 days and you’re protected at 28 after the first jab (7 days after the second)

Friends of ours are taking their kids out of school a week early. It will be classed as unauthorised absence but they will not be fined.

Taking the kids out a week early is a very wise idea to be honest, especially if planning to mix on the 25th. Schools should really be shutting next week but aren’t, it’s the height of stupidity and parents nationally are pulling their kids out anyway apparently

Unless I’ve got this wrong, from what I understood from the tv last night, the vaccine only stops you personally from getting ill from it.
You can still carry the virus and pass it on and give it to someone else.
So until the majority have had it, (the vaccine) social distancing and mask wearing will still need to be done.
It is unclear whether immunity = non-transmissibility because that has not been part of any of the trial structures thus far.

Social distancing and mask wearing will need to be part of our personal landscape until at the very least Summer 2021.

Son's heard one his old Stafford mates has got fined £200 , they'd travelled from Tier 3 to a Tier 2 pub and cops caught them sitting inside with 'non-family' mates.

This tier system is never going to work if lots just aren't sticking to the rules :ohno:

Matt Hancock has announced there is a new variant of Coronavirus on the block, which is causing widespread transmission in London over the past week.

This is worrying, especially considering whether these new vaccines will have any effect on this new variant, or if those immune to the current Coronavirus are now at risk again. Or whether we will be back to square one in January 2021.

It would need to change significantly for the vaccination not to work on any variant because of the way the spike protein is utilised - which is different from how the flu vaccine works which is why we need a new flu jab each year as it's for a different variant ( 4 main types then sub divisions using the H*N* nomenclature).
