They won't be social distancing. There's not a lot of point in them going back to school if they're going to "social-distance" (at least any more than are attending school at the moment).

And as someone above has said, come the middle of June, there's not much gets done in the 5 weeks that remain, certainly for some year groups.

It was just the chasing-up of some of the students that they'd given up on. As they say "You can lead a horse to water ....".

ETA I'd say this was good use of the teacher's time. There's probably a lesson there about the 80:20 Rule / Pareto Principal - 80% of the "chasing up" time being spent on 20% of the students.

I would be making a parental complaint if my child wasn't taught anything for 5 weeks!

@That-Crazy-Rat-Lady Have a listen to Radio4 Women's Hour from this morning (10:00 to 10:30) where they were discussing schools returning, and especially how contagious schoolkids were.

I guess you were a teacher and a front line worker in a previous life?

I felt like I'd retired for the first 2 weeks of lockdown (I'd just been told to set revision work)

I was so bored! Don't know how you do it!

Nope. Apart from 2 years, all of my 37 years in employment were spent working in ICT in the public sector.

But my wife is a retired teacher and most of her friends are classroom workers.

I think they were glad to get rid of me.

ETA The death rate is heading in the right direction, but painfully slowly. It's reducing by about 30% per week at the moment, and looking at the graph, the rate has halved in about 24 days. 861/day on April 10th; 431/day today.

693 deaths announced today I'm very sorry to say. Although presumably some of those are from over the weekend.

The death rate in hospitals has been falling for a couple of weeks but the death rate in care homes is still increasing significantly, and who knows what is happening outside hospitals & care homes.

Far more likely to be out in the community if it's in care homes than hospitals.

The Financial Times, hardly loony lefties or conspiracy theorists, are suggesting that the actual figure for UK Covid deaths is currently around 40,000+.

It's behind a paywall. Does it say what 'data' they are using to suggest such a figure?
