And my weekend trip to Durham has been cancelled. :grr: The game I was going up for has been postponed (and IMO will probably never get played).

ETA On the other hand, my daughter seems to be having a good time in Belize. Fingers crossed, they'll let her back into Canada when it's time to return.

Vietnam has announced that from noon Vietnam time (0500 UK) on 15 March 2020 foreign nationals will be refused entry to Vietnam if in the previous 14 days they have been to the UK, or any Schengen country, even in transit. This restriction will be in place for 30 days.

At least I know now. Scotland for a week it is.

So it's no trip out to the footie tomorrow. Got tickets for the 3 of us for 11th April as well, and son has booked a few days off to make it a good easter weekend with us so hoping that game is actually on by then.

We've decided that if there's no FCO advice to avoid travel to Portugal , and Portugal will let us in, we are going! Just stay in the quieter restaurants and bars near our hotel in the evening and avoid the busier crowded 'Strip'. Our usual long walks out in the daytime, and go on the beach and in the sea rather than hotel pool .
At the moment Albufiera has closed pools, museums etc , closed nightclubs, and limited numbers in bars, restaurants, shops and shopping centres. (To either a third less, or to a third.....seems confusion as to which) Any queueing to be done outdoors and not inside....
Heard from someone over there that the tourists don't seem bothered and carrying on as normal, but panic buying by locals has started.

All this talk of loo roll is making us consider a bidet. They’re all the rage apparently

Also, mass gathering of parents and children at the cafe/church in the tech park tonight, not the... best idea?

It's been interesting watching the first day of the restrictions in Ireland. People that I've seen are largely complying without any great resistance. There is a little 'extra shopping' going on, but not excessively so - many people do have to allow for their homes having a higher occupancy rate than is usual for the next few weeks.

There have been some interesting improvisations - I've seen a few manually-operated public access doors tied back, so people don't have to use the handles, etc.

The Garda Training College has been 'closed', but is being readied for use as an extra/isolation facility, should the need arise.

Dramatic reductions in road traffic evident on the western island. It'll be interesting to see what effects this has on air pollution levels and more direct road casualties.

In order to combat the upcoming serious shortage of bogrolls, and thinking a bidet is a bit too 'pansy' like, I've decided to construct a home made bidet using a Karcher Pressure Washer. I cannot deny in my experiments I've encountered problems, and a considerable amount of pain !!!

Nonetheless, in true Churchillian style in times of hardship, I shall persevere. So if you see a bleached pelvis stuck up a tree (like those trousers on another thread) you'll know that although my efforts were in vain, .... I went out trying. :urgh:
