I've heard one by December. Of course they are unlikely to suit the whole population.
In a sense, you won't be far out.

The timetable will, hopefully go something like this:
October 2020 - Announcement
November 2020 - Sign off by regulatory body
Late November/December 2020 - First vaccines given to top priority groups of people

Of course, this all depends on the announced vaccine being both safe and effective.

I have also heard there's another 3 in each of the next quarters.
I think once 2021 arrives the number of vaccine announcements will steadily grow, afterall there are over 300 vaccine candidates at various stages of development.

Priority 1 is to get an effective vaccine asap. After that, it will be a steady process of trying to steadily improve the effectiveness of the best vaccines, whilst dealing with any mutations in the virus.

I honestly believe the end game is in sight for the virus (or at least this highly virulent phase). However, it is going to a very long end game.

Don't expect a vaccine to be available to you this year

Don't expect a vaccine to be effective to the over 45's

Don't expect a vaccine to ever be a cure all

Don't buy shares in AstraZeneca plc

I was under the impression that even with the Oxford one, which is ahead of the pack, it’s unlikely to be ready until the end of the year?

Each stage takes time. Even if the announcement happens this month, it has to be signed off by the regulator (even in these times expect that to take another month), then come the logistics of getting the vaccine distributed and activating the priority list.

I hope and expect that we will see the vaccinations commence this year, but this will be a long process and it could well take 12 months or more before we get it out to everyone.

It is probably worth mentioning, as well, that the Oxford vaccine looks like it will be a two shot vaccine, with the second dose given 4 weeks after the first. That just adds to the logistical nightmare.

As I said before, the end game will not be short, or easy.

I work for an electrical contractors. We do a lot of work for modular builders ( think portacabin). We are expecting an order to wire 150 units for vaccine administration. Units would be required by December. This is the first batch of orders but the total is expected to be 2500

Would be logical - keep the masses away from hospitals and GPs, potentially utilise the military to get the vaccine done as they will turn it around pronto.

I hope the vaccination programme isn't handled by GPs. Mine can't even give me a date for the flu jab yet, they're "fully booked at present". Mind you, if the bastards answered the phone occasionally they might be able to fit me in. Won't accept appointments in person at the reception window & the online booking system was disconnected even before lockdown.

That's probably because there isn't enough vaccine right now.
