Would anyone like to make?

A very obscure, random, factual quiz on the town of Stafford

I have been made aware that there are rather a lot of people in the local hospital desperate for either some mental stimulation or something visible to have a moan at

Or if not

Pose a question or two

And then one can be compiled

I thank thee

Having only lived here for 26yrs, I feel ill qualified in either stafford history or culture to help out....

But @Gramaisc knows everything (in a good way), I imagine @staffordjas knows a lot..... & of course @Withnail

Hmmmmm......:hmm: I know lots about Stafford and the many changes , being born and bred here for almost 65 years. Got lots of memories , but not very good at thinking of any questions that I think people might know the answer to ..
(I've got a couple of books of 'old' Stafford that I inherited from my parents house clearance, will have a look in that tomorrow to see if anything inspires me )

OK, what is the origin of the name of the Crispin public house?

St Crispin is the patron saint of shoemakers.

In 1070 the people of Stafford were so terrorised that they fled to a Mercian Monastery.

In 1072, Robert de Stafford made an endowment to this Monastery in atonement.

Which Monastery?

For a bonus point - which C.21st politician links the two towns?

For a brief glorious moment, the de Staffords were elevated to the Dukedom.

Three Dukes of Buckingham were of the de Stafford name.

What were their first names?

For a bonus point - none of them died peaceably in their beds, but only one of them wasn't executed as a traitor - which one?
