Create your own Ambi-light for your TV

Yeh, I'll be needing the LEDs. Got a spare Pi already... I might do this another way, leading on from this idea... I only use the Pi as media centre so don't watch live TV through it. I've found that some people have split their HDMI signal to the TV and used a AV capture device connected to a Pi so they can Ambilight all their TV content... now that's a project!

I have a strip of "dream colour" led lights, 5 meters long. A slight difference in the chip version but do the same things. Mine came with their own controller with loads of built in lighting patterns. They're pretty impressive things!! I've never quite decided what to do with them, or why I bought them though :)

I thought they were programmable? The controller connects to them, but they can be wired up to your own controller / software etc too as far as I knew
??

Dunno, mine all go one colour together.
Mine don't. When you search for them, you need to look for "dream colour". They're much dearer but can do this kind of shizzle... I had mine around the greenery on the fence...
One problem I noticed is that some sellers falsely state dream colour for standard ones like you've got too, so be careful what you buy!

I honestly can't remember what I paid, but I'm pretty sure it was somewhere around £30 for 5m including controller and PSU. Worth every penny and seriously bright!!
It's currently sitting in it's original packet, but no doubt one day I'll think of a good use for it.

Not a clue to be honest but I doubt it. I've not looked into it that technically to be honest, I bought it just as a posh rope light with it's own controller.

Yep thanks tec-monkey that's a big help

The small black box is the DMX interface control you control this with DMX mixer / controller or from a computer you can then create your own scene's to suit the mood / lighting effect you want

The LEDs don't use DMX internally. From my reading it would appear there's a number of different protocols.

Usualy dip switch setting 1 and if you look close on the black box you'll see the XLR socket for DMX control
