Defective Virgin Media Cable Modem Power Bricks

I unexpectedly got a new power brick in the post today from Virgin Media. They said that if you have the old blue NTL/Telewest/VM cable modems, the old power brick may overheat, causing safety issues. Therefore, I replaced it with the new, lighter, power brick, and problem averted :)

They said that I can return the old (defective?) power brick in the post, but I'm assuming I can keep it as a spare just in case the new one isn't all it's cracked up to be. Maybe I'll wait a few weeks before sending it back, as I didn't notice any time limits for doing this.

The power bricks have a slightly lower output spec though... I wonder if the new one will last as long?...

We read on here about the superhubs not being supplied with their power supplies and the engineers using the old modem ones instead which overheat because they aren't powerful enough. And sure enough they did it to us as well when we changed package. I shouted at some poor indian call centre guy and got a whole new superhub sent out so we could have the correct PSU. I can't believe they've not been caught out on it yet it's really dangerous! I'm guessing they've realised and are trying to rectify it before the press gets wind!
