I unexpectedly got a new power brick in the post today from Virgin Media. They said that if you have the old blue NTL/Telewest/VM cable modems, the old power brick may overheat, causing safety issues. Therefore, I replaced it with the new, lighter, power brick, and problem averted
They said that I can return the old (defective?) power brick in the post, but I'm assuming I can keep it as a spare just in case the new one isn't all it's cracked up to be. Maybe I'll wait a few weeks before sending it back, as I didn't notice any time limits for doing this.
The power bricks have a slightly lower output spec though... I wonder if the new one will last as long?...
