Did you vote yesterday?

i'm not fussed about who you voted for (although i reserve the right to judge you if you say! ) but im just interested to see how many people took advantage of the opportunity to actively seek change.

my feeling is that you have the opportunity to force change, and if you dont take it, then you cant complain when the rest of your community speaks on your behalf.

even if you you vote for an obscure party, at least you have voiced an opinion and prevented those that you really dont support gaining a win by default.

i dont know how 'useful' my vote was last night and i wont know until sunday, but being as i multi-tasked and took my recycling to local point at the same time....my social conscience is clear for the next 24 hours. until i start binge drinking tonight that is!

i completely understand how people would be apathetic about the elections with the mantra of "theyre all as bad as each other" ringing so loudly in everyones ears....but i dont get how if you are that upset by the scandals that they wouldnt bother to voice their fury in anyway legally possible...and this is a fairly effective way!

I think TBF she was just sat on the sofa and thought "I CBA walking down to the polling station" to which I did explain it is her democratic right and duty to vote or else she can't complain....

I should add in case I wasn't clear, I didn't force her to vote for specific people, she chose to vote for the same people as me because she doesn't take much interest in politics whereas I read the leaflets and watch the news etc.

One of my mates on Facebook said he was off to vote and got called a "sad b*stard" by another of our mates. I took a swipe at this mate and told him that everyone should vote to which I got the reply "why, they're all thieving tw@'s"

I couldn't really argue with him at that point as he was correct IMHO (ok maybe not all of them but thats how it looks sometimes when my mates are working hard on just above minimum wage to keep a roof over their head and support their families while paying high taxes to pay MP's mortgages for them.....

It's more the reaction some people seem to have - you'd think voting for a different party was a personal insult to them. If you really care, yes I did after a great deal of indecision vote for our friend mr sofa when I got in the booth, although I'd intended to vote for the incumbent when I walked in on the basis that the more people who do the less likely the BNP are to get in.

I voted, yes. As a side note, my polling station was John Wheeldon Primary, and I was gratified to see a wall display about Richmal Crompton's William Brown. It's lightened my world a little to know that maybe there's a new generation of fans of this fantastic body of work.

Fully agree Wookie, it is no one else's business, but then neither is what I had for tea last night or the fact that I like football and wouldn't mind a piece of Cheryl Cole... but I still don't mind telling people. Its all part of who I am.

I can understand what you are saying Goldilox, I know people who would say "oh you don't want to vote for them long haired, stinky greens, trying to ban cars and eating beef" but then people like that are stupid anyway. I think people should be proud of who they vote for, TBH I can see a lot of sense in what the Greens are all about.

I like to think that if I told someone who I voted for and they disagreed then we could have a good discussion about it over a pint (and eventually decide I was right and the other person was wrong - joke).

I voted around 10 a.m. yesterday at the Rangers and was the only person in sight at the time. I voted Green, as we didn't seem to have a Lib Dem candidate available. I would have voted Labour, if there was still a Labour party to vote for, but I haven't seen one for thirty years.

I do intensely dislike the 'Party List' scenario for the European seats.

I am on record as stating that any woman who doesn't vote should be thrown in front of the King's horse!

I grew up in a Just William situation. Even at the time we knew how good it was - and that it would shortly end through lack of effort from the majority. I must have a read of one again soon and see if it all comes back. I am a little surprised that a school in this era would promote books containing low-level crime, mild violence and catapults.

Glad to hear that.

We'll get the local results as soon as they're complete, but the European ones will be held back until Sunday evening as the rest of Europe doesn't have a mental block on being unable to vote unless it is a Thursday.

Idea!! we should follow Europe and vote on sundays and wherever possible use churches, etc as polling stations this would avoid disrupting education and reigious places are often open on a Sunday and they could maybe cash in on the added numbers passing through their doors .....

One story that has been omitted is William and the Nasties, a racist 1935 yarn in which the Outlaws emulate Hitler by persecuting Mr Isaacs, a stingy, hook-nosed Jewish sweet shop owner.

I remember this one, but I think that most of us knew that is was a parable.
