Digital Camera Recommendations

I need a new camera. I was wondering if any of the photographers on here can recommend any particular models - it must be SLR and rechargeable.

I will probably mostly be using it for photographing artwork and landscape photography (if that makes any difference).

Mine was £420 from Currys, though I'll be spending about as much on a zoom lens.

I can't help as regards second hand cameras unfortunately, though I expect bigbluewolf will.

I have the 5100 too and it's great. It's last year's model so I would imagine there is deals to be had. Get a 50mm lens whatever you get. They are amazing.

Canon are dead easy to use. I've currently got a D500 and it does pretty much what you mention. Funnily enough I took some photographs of paintings whilst on holiday last week and there's no noticeable distortion.
Using the 18-135 lens on 18 does give converging verticals if photographing buildings though, but if wide angle stuff is your bag you'd probably want to change the lens anyway.

ive got the Canon 600D with a 18-55 kit lens.
it was around £550 from "the rainforest site beginning with A ".

... athough that's prob more than you want to pay, ive heard theres not much difference between this and the older models other than an lcd screen, so keep a look out for models such as the Canon 550D or 400D.

......still trying to get my head around using mine even now, theres a lot to learn but its fun :)

Whichever brand you decide to buy, make sure you actually handle the camera BEFORE buying. How it feels in your hand is very important.

just so that you know, image stabilisation on canon cameras is done through the lenses ( however some of the lenses you can buy don't have this feature).

I was wondering how I find out if the lens that comes with this camera (http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5594463.htm) has image stabilisation?

I'm sure that somebody who really knows will be along in a minute, but that looks non-IS to me - the IS lens looks like this.

..with "IS II" after the f-rating.
