argh, i've got the money sitting in my account right now, but i keep convincing myself out of taking the plunge! lol..

apple have got a "black friday" sale on today, but that makes no odds to me since i get educational discount anyway (which is not further discounted in today's sale, alas)..

someone convince me that i really do want to spend £850 on a computer which i will basically use to just browse the internet on!

haha they're really really good! If you're basically gonna browse the interwebs then I'd get the 13" pro though.

Its definitely worth the investment. I imagine you feel just as smug as someone who's bought a prius lol

argh, don't start complicating things even further!! lol.. i've settled on an imac, so if i'm getting one at all then that's the route i'm going down..

as i'm sure you all know, i've been banging on about this for ages now.. i'm just the world's worst procrastinator, and the minute i find myself in a position to be able to afford one i convince myself out of it!

only thing that annoys me about the new imacs is the new keyboard.. they go and make it all sexy and wireless, but then inexplicably remove the numpad :?:

New Apple Wireless Keyboard

being the sort of anally retentive nerd who keeps track of his budget via an overly complicated excel spreadsheet, i would really miss a numpad, so i think i'm going to have to sacrifice the wireless and go for the old style wired one complete with numpad:

Apple Keyboard with numeric keypad - British

but the geek in me loves the idea of a minimalist desktop, with nowt but a wire-free keyboard and magic mouse :(

Give the money to charity. You'll feel far more virtuous and do more good.
(The Wookie Benevolent Fund coffers are looking a bit empty, for example. :) )

right, bugger it, i'm defo buying one lol.. is there any compelling reason to get one with dedicated graphics?

for an extra £220 you get:

1TB HDD (instead of 500GB)
ATI Radeon HD 4670 with dedicated 256MB GDDR3 (instead of NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256MB of shared DDR3 memory)

other than that, the two 21.5" models are identical.. i'm not a big gamer, but part of me is still having doubts about shared graphics..

that being said, every PC i've ever had has had shared graphics, and it hasn't given me any problems/limitations so far..

right, well, that's that then.. it's ordered!

i went for the sensible, budget option.. as much as dedicated graphics would be nice, it dawned on me that if i've always had onboard shared graphics options 'til now and i've never run into any bother, i really can see no reason why i would need anything more.. and the missus' PC (which she uses to play Sims 3) has an nvidia 8600 in it, which is sweet like chocolate, so i'm sure the 9400M will do all that and more :D:up:

now i just have to wait for the bugger to turn up!

Congratulations! :buddy:

You'll have it in no time. I'd get a box o' tissues in though :fap:

My pro has the 9400M and also the 9600 GT cards in and under leopard I never use the 9600 because it drains the battery and nothing i use the machine for is that graphically intensive so I don't think you have anything to be worried about. It plays DVDs and even some of the 720p nature programs I have downloaded from BBC iPlayer HD without a glitch.

I do use the 9600 GT under windows though - it chops through UT3 / LFS / HL2 / Dreamkiller etc.

wait, what? some?? my old media PC, which was a skt939 athlon64 with onboard nvidia 6150 shared graphics, used to rinse out 720p HD no problems! have you really had trouble playing 720p content on your dual-core MBP using 9400M?? :raise:

yeah, i would have liked the dedicated graphics option, just in case i suddenly turn into a games fan, but frankly i couldn't justify the extra £220 just in case i decide to play a game one day lol.. in fact, now i put it like that, i'm even more glad i didn't bother - £220 will buy you a PS3 slim, near enough, so if i want games i'll just do that instead! lol..

lol no sorry I see I could have written that better - normally I download stuff on BBC HD and watch it on the PC its only the odd few I have watched on this machine and each has been without glitch. I haven't tried anything at 1080 on it yet but with a screen res of 1440 odd there is no point.

Ahhhh 939..... good times :D
