I agree :( am I the only one who's never heard of him?

I gave up when William Hartnell went - but I might start again...

My Dr Who experiences started very hazily with Tom Baker, Peter Davidson who I adored, one of my first crushes lol. Colin Baker who I hated, I always thought of him as rather nasty and scary. Sylvester McCoy who I really enjoyed. Some people hated Paul McGann I didn't mind him. Really like Chris Eccleston, Loved David Tennant (fancied the pants off him too :p ) and have really enjoyed Matt Smith. I don't know much about this new guy but a bit of trivia for you, I did see him in World War Z where he played a Dr, in the World Health Organisation. And in a weird twisted Whovian way David Tennant married his own daughter pmsl.

From that I deduce I am about the same age as Gadget, and maybe a couple younger than Glam!

I remember watching Tom Baker whilst hiding under the sofa!

He's a great actor, and it's a mark of the importance of the show that what would have previously have been a press release had a 30 min puff show around an announcement.

I know he'll make a great doctor, I hope to writing is up to it but I'm a bit disappointing it's an actor I know so well ( Neverwhere, The Crow Road with Goldilox is currently re watching, The Devil's Whore, the Thick of It, Torchwood - Children of Earth, The Hour - not to mention so many one offs of TV drama) I can't see the next few series - and I doubt he'll be attached to the role for very long - holding many surprises. I'm disappointed I won't get to see someone new and fresh, Like Matt Smith was, or David Tennant (who I only knew from Blackpool & Casanova) in the role.

To me , and I'll happily be proven wrong, Peter Capaldi is a known quantity, which isn't always what I want from Dr. Who.

Also, the intro thing on the bbc allows for a truly creepy face...
