Does anyone here design iPhone / android apps?

I'm looking for someone that (at a reasonable fee) can design me an iphone and android app and have it published.

I've looked into the many online app creation tools, however they all appear to produce what is essentially a mobile site rather than a fully interactive app. I haven't found a single one that will allow me the creativity required.

If anyone has serious skills in this kind of thing then please give me a shout. The kind of app that I require will allow people to upload pictures to something such as a dropbox folder (mine not theirs), upon entry of a reference number which in turn would upload to a specific folder. No doubt quite complex. If the app could also be done in a way which I could make small changes myself it would be a huge bonus.

At the moment it's purely an idea so I'm just putting the feelers out. I'd need a rough idea of ongoing costs etc too as well as upfront payment.

I doubt very much that this is anyone's thing on here, but if you don't ask you don't find out. :)

I don't know if this will help WMR but, I have a copy of the BIG book: "Beginning iOS6 Development"
with the sub titles: "Design and develop your app from concept and vision to code" and: "Exploring
the iOS SDK" If anyone would like it (to get you on your way) they are welcome to it for nowt.
Original cost:$39.99, cost to me at the car boot: £1. One of those "You never know when it might
come in handy" moments.

I looked into it once for creating teaching resources (useful for supply work)because after many years teaching I have hundreds of resources and lesson plans lying around, the cheapest quote I had was around 10k.... I had them published into a book instead that could just be photocopied with a CD attached with the coloured version on, which I sell through an educational site for schools.

@Ecker , I really appreciate that offer mate, but to be honest it's not something that I'd ideally want to learn for the purpose of a one-off app. Good thought though, so again many thanks for the offer.

@Floss that is my kind of fear. I might try contacting some of the bespoke app creators for an idea but I have a feeling they'll come back at me with ridiculous figures for what is possibly only a few hours of work to some of them.

Skilled development work is expensive, it's very difficult to justify the cost for pet projects. Developing your own mobile app isn't impossible but like any skill it requires years of experience to be good at it, you could read a book and follow some tutorials and get an app out there with under 100 hours of work, but you couldn't expect it to be professional quality -- although if it's just for your own personal use it wouldn't matter too much, and the learning process is enjoyable.

Planning a development project is not a short process, that alone can take dozens of hours even with a very (functionally) simple application, which is why there's always going to be a floor on the amount you can spend, even a simple app is going to cost thousands of pounds to get to the point where programming and design work can start.

A problem a lot of people run into when thinking about ideas like this is that they have a problem, they come up with a solution and then they try and find someone to implement that solution but their solution isn't necessarily the right solution, because it has been chosen based on limited knowledge. A mobile application might not be the right solution for your problem, or it might be the case that a webview backed app could be the right choice, instead of a fully interactive app.

I do website development and have knowledge of mobile application development, I would be happy to share thoughts on your idea if you're able to talk about the problem you're trying to solve, I should be able to at least confirm what is/isn't possible and if you're looking in the right direction.

Got a few ideas for an app myself, can handle the back end OK but never done front end other than websites.

I perhaps did not define what I meant all that well. If anyone would like like
the book about writing applications for iOS, you are more than welcome to it
