Just a thought, but Silent Night delivered the beds with their own courier. They provided a removal service for £30 extra, so if you order one of theirs you should be able to easily get it sorted.

We didnt want to pay extra to have our old bed taken away so we put the bed frame and the mattress on e bay as separate items.

We sold both...essentially someone paid us to take our old stuuff away.

Result.

What a load of flapping around for a bed. Also, imho, Katharine House are far beyond being a charitable organisation more so a profiteering organisation, how many charity shops can boast running a sale!?!?! FFS! Honourable course, very poor administration.

This reply has made me cross.

@Lancer165 do you know anything about Katharine House or what they do?

Of course the shop has to make a profit......but where do you think those profits go?

Katharine House provides free hospice care for those with an incurable illness.. yes dying people, to enable them to live their last few months to the full. Although they are situated in the grounds of the hospital they are independant of it and rely on donations.

It costs 2.7 million to keep the hospice going and this money comes from donatiions and yes, profits from the shop.

One day someone you love dearly may be spending their last days in there, will you be concerned then that the shop is "profiteering"?

It annoyed me too @Carole. Couldn't think of a polite way to reply. Thank you for doing so xxx

As long as they are making sales that is what matters to them, that said though the last few times I've tried to donate I was looked at with something bordering on scorn for daring to think they'd want my items. A brand new still sealed metal framed paddling pool, expensive desk with virtually no marks whatsoever, Solid wood framed sofa, all ended up in the tip instead. Not just me either, my OH tried to give them a fairly bathroom suite which they refused because they already had a few - but the ones they had were B&Q basics style and were marked up at near new prices. This was a while ago so things have hopefully changed, but I don't even consider them anymore. I just give my stuff away to anyone that can collect themselves.

I like the charity, I just didn't like the warehouse managers attitude.

Because on those occasions I was there, in a rented van, with nowhere at the new house for the stuff I was trying to donate. Even if I had taken them back home I'd have had to rent another van to take them to the tip if nobody wanted them after that. I guess I was just stupid thinking KH would want my stuff, I did state my stuff gets given away now and my old bed has a new home.

I am well aware of what Katharine House is for, and as I stated a very honourable course, but as has been reiterated here not run very well by the administration, who I agree sometimes come across as hostile.

I suppose the acid test is, do they raise the money they require in order to do good year after year.

If they do, then that's all that matters.

If people don't want to deal with them Stafford isn't short of options on the charity shop front.

You said they were , in your own words a "profiteering organisation".

I just wonder about the logic of someone setting up a charity, any charity and NOT wanting to make a profit.

Am I missing something here?

What would you have them do when they are trying to make as much money as possible for a good cause.........make a loss.....break even?

Carole, you remind me of my former spouse, always got to get the last word in. I may have worded badly what I was trying to get across, but the majority of people seem to have got what the gist was.

@Lancer165
The thing is, we are all anonymous on here so I could actually be your ex spouse....

Are you the very sweet mechanic that was my first love?
Are you the lovely Fireman with the very gentle kind personality?
Are you the gorgeous pilot that loved country walks on the Chase?
Are you the French Count? .....In Stafford no probably not....
Are you the deep sea diver that I met in Mauritius?
Are you the lying cheating Italian millionaire that I gave the best years of my thighs?
