Doxey Marshes

Hey all, i'm guessing some of you have been here before, it's funny i hear a bit about it sometimes, but i've never actually been (other end of town for me) even though that's only 20 mins or so away!

I know the weather is totally rubbish at the moment, (understatment!) but i'm guessing it's a nice place for a early morning walk (weather permiting?) i've heard about rare birds sometimes being spotted- or birds just that arent around the usual places.

So, anyone have any experiences? a bit random i know, but thought i'd ask.

Cheers

While we're at it actually, anyone suggest some good early morning / or whenever walking routes?

(Anywhere around stafford)

although early morning must be best in the summer, with the sun rising and quiet.. lovely if you ask me.

I remember sitting in the metal hide a few years back, during a severe lightning storm, having a conversation with someone about if the hide was struck by lightning would it act like a faraday cage (safe) or a microwave (instantly cooked).

Alright thanks, can't believe i've not been near it yet really, i'm not even sure 100% how to get to it, i'm pretty sure i can find out easy on google maps though!

Just need some better weather now, surely it can't be this bad for whole of summer, right? well.. i suppose this is england!

We live close to Doxey marshes and go over several times a week to walk the dog. You will need some walking boots at the moment - its very boggy over there in places but there was only one place we couldn't actually get past because the water would have gone over the tops of our boots!

I had a spin round there today and found the first of the 'new' benches that went in in 1997, I think - I did go back on the Monday morning to see if it had survived the first weekend...
