Drug laws - Do Nice People Take Drugs?

Happened in the USA a few years ago. Most police officers were failing "drug & alcohol" tests for opiates and blaming it on poppy seed bagels. A university was commissioned to carry out a study. Took people, tested them to check they were free of opiates then gave them from one to six poppy seed bagels and retested them. On average people who had eated just one poppy seed the failed the test for opiates and continued to fail the test for a further five days.

Lettuce contains opiate, some varieties have suprisingly high levels!

As someone who has experienced almost constant discomfort for some years and faces a future of the same or worse then I would welcome cannabis as legal pain management.

The legal position on most drugs has nothing to do with harm, most studies conclude that were it to be so we should legalise weed and ban fags and alcohol.

Seemingly people in France and Germany are ripping the flowerheads from Hydrangeas and using them as a cheap substitute for cannabis. Health officials are issuing the standard health warnings.

Mind you, I know people who've tried smoking hops when they discover that they belong to the same plant family as cannabis. That really isn't recommended, very vivid psychadelic colours play across their face as they head rapidly for the loo. However cannabis does make a very good substitute for hops in beer. (eg http://www.absinth.cz/product/cannabis-beer/cannabis-beer).

My partner has problems with cinnamon, she has hallucinatory dreams at night if she has eaten anything with cinnamon in it. She is desperately tryin to remember the dreams as she thinks they would make great story lines for books. Interesting because cinnamon certainly contains mind altering substances it normally takes much higher doses to have an effect.

I ate (by accident) a whole tablespoon of it last year - it made me cough for about 2 days!

I don't know the details of your situation, however, I would suggest just cracking on.

There is a high profile guy in the USA that just took over as CEO in one of their big cannabis companies, their plan is to make cannabis oil for medical use and cough drop like lozenges for recreational. Can't remember his name but he was well known, he basically said in 10 years the USA will have legalised it and if they do everyone else will follow. Which is both conceited and accurate.

EDIT: Former governor of New Mexico apparently:
