Anybody know what is happening with the Esso petrol station in Lammascote? Went past it this morning and it was coned off and the shop was empty of everything. There was staff in, but looked like it was closing down, or maybe a refurbishment will happen, or ....!

Think they're having new pumps IIRC.

There was a message on the counter the other week I went in. Doesn't mean to say they should be closing off the shop too though.

Having the fuel tanks replaced, so likely shop closing too. IIRC I think it's closing until February time.

What is wrong with supermarket fuel? What corners do they cut that other garages wouldn't, if it boosts profits?

probably nothing, but people used to always say that supermarket fuel was inferior.. contained less detergent to clean your engine, or something..

as i say, probably nonsense propaganda spread by petrol stations, but part of me still believes it and prefers not to get petrol from supermarkets!

I believe that ASDA does, but only for the bio-diesel for their own lorries.

Remember a couple of years ago, supermarket fuel caused problems with a lot of modern car engines and the sensors they contained. Something to do with the aditive to stop the fuel from frothing up.

Yup. My parents mondeo required £280 of parts (without fitting) because of this. Annoying thing was, despite it then running ok, the emissions we're still so high on the MOT that it never went through one again - therefore became a scrapper. Twas Tesco's fuel for them.

Anyone concerned about this but not wanting to pay BP's prices, remember you've got the Shell on Sandon Road, Plus Merco (or whatever it's called) by the prison.

This may of been true a few short years ago but i have been using tesco for the last 7 years and never had a problem with any of the cars i filled up there which range from brand new ones to 15year old cars. All were filled up there for minimum of 12 months there and all have sucessfully passed emissions tests on MOT.

But better still at tesco you get points to use at so many places...the amount we spend on fuel means we get so many great FREE days out.

Very true. I don't worry about this myself either... it was one of those things and could just as easily have happened to Esso fuel! To blame a supplier years and years on is unfair really. No doubt it cost them dearly and a lesson has be learnt from it.
