yes, even though ill be voting in sheffield.
are there elections in sheffield as well, or do you mean you're voting in the stafford ones by proxy?

sorry if that sounds like a stupid question, but my knowledge or politics is about as good as my sense of tact..

Yep I will indeedy
I didn't vote for many years not really sure why..I dont think it was "couldn't be arsed" ness or just even trying to be trendy ..or something but anyways I didnae . But then it occurred to me that if i didnt like who was in thenI had the power green and blue hair or not to let someone else in ...OK so the penny finally dropped and this was a bit nieve to say the least ..but I like the idea that maybe one day somethin might change rather than the usual lineup ....So yep you can be revolutionary and radical.. and you should and must excercise your right to vote. for whoever you like . sermon over ..

in my attempt to complete my postal vote i accidentally sealed one of the envelopes and neglected the fact i was supposed to seal the ballet sheet thingy in its seperate envolope. Will this impead my chance of successfully voting? and should i attempt the re-opening of my sealed envelope and risk potential invalidation?

do i even give a duck?

p.s. apologies for poor spelling, i seem to be a bit tired of thinking

the local elections are happening across the the country.

im on the electoral register in sheffield (purely for credit reasons) and so im eligible to vote in sheffield.

i think you may have already missed the deadline for postal voting if youre on the electoral register in stafford, but if youre not on the register at all, youre not eligible to vote anywhere.

if youre not on the list, you dont get a say.

This weeks Newsletter has a bit from each of the party leaders about their policies - whilst Lib Dems and Greens mention various stuff which you would expect the Labour and Tory paragraphs are almost indistinguishable - both claim they will protect weekly bin collection, increase recycling, keep tax to inflation rate etc. Since these are the only two parties liable to hold a majority, what real choice do we have?

Me, I want a bigger bin for my recycling and an alternate week collection service - or even a weekly recycling and fortnightly for the rest. I'm happy to pay a bit more tax if a get a better service. Looks like I'm going to be disapointed.

Paragraphs/policies it's all the same stuff at the end of the day. But we have known this for a while surely.

I'm up for doing my bit for recycling but would preferably keep weekly bin collections for hygiene reasons. I already do my tins and bottles (which for anyone who has been to my house will testify, is a fair amount!). I managed to get another recycling box off my mate who was doing some work for tamworth council and he 'acquired' some. It pains me to say it but they are much better quality than Stafford's boxes. Alot more sturdy, bigger and they also come in a rather fetching shade of blue!

Disagree with the fact that the local schools are used as Polling Stations. My son's future school is used, so this means I'll be needing to save a day's annual leave each election year to do this. Great.

Might bring that one up when I'm down there this evening.

I can't believe how many schools were shut today, there were loads of kids around town today.

My sons school was still open (Barnfields) but the little girls nursery was shut (Wildwood community centre)

My children's school was used as a polling station and, as if by magic, there's a teacher training day tomorrow.

Teacher training - My Arse

5 days off on a bank holiday more like.

I once read that schools are closed for 156 days of the year but teachers have a hard time because they have to mark homework!!

I think this post should have been in the rant thread

OOOH !

I am now very tempted! ... thing is I know I WOULD rant ..and well it would be sooo easy ..but ..well maybe best not to go there ..ok ..just a little one !
lets just say you dont work 70 hour weeks do you ? and you CAN'T stand in front of on avrge 260 diffrent mental profiles each week ..and you DON'T have to take daily abuse all day EVERY day ..and you CERTAINLY dont get asked to rewrite and change everything you do EVERY 3 months and you DON'T have staff, section, steering group meetings EVERY FECKIN WEEK AFTER WORK ! and you DON'T give up your dinner hours and breaks to either tell someone off or be a shoulder to cry on .. but then again neither do I now !..I wonder why ? Oh incidentally teacher training days are used to appease or satisfy the most of the time frankly silly initiatives and better "community" schemes prompted by parents who reckon they could do a better job.than the teachers .Polling stations are put in primary schools because the government believe it wont harm the education of the younger children it has nothing to do with childminding facilities I'm afraid the both parents at work situ has been forced on the education system but the system is there to educate not babysit . My take on it is logically families should be a bit more proactive in my opinion and do shared childminding out of term time/INSET days etc ..then people would have to take less time off ..children would be cared for , less time would need to be taken off work etc etc .. It might work ?but please don't ever say its an easy cushy job ..it takes one hell of a human being to do it especially as most of the time they are unsupported or given any backing from neither management or government .. I know I was there ...

MY ARSE BACK ATCHA!

But then yours and now my place of work isn't closed for 156 days a year is it ? ... trust me there are few harder jobs and they deserve every spare chance of a break of any kind they can ...

Us nursery practitioners suffer the same, the curriculum for under 5's is an immense work load add to that the planning and development books. Days off a year. . . 15. No unions for us, unless you live in Scotland!
