No, rat running is not "leaving work". Try Mr Google.cushT said:Here here. Even if a few are so called rat running, what does that even mean? Leaving work I guess.
Erm, no. If leaving Areva you could go straight down St Leonards Avenue, and come out on the lights. No distance added. Secondly, why don't you read posts properly before arguing back? In the example of Queensville Avenue, the issue isn't the speed you get up the bridge, it is the knock on effect back up the queue which reduces the efficiency at which the previous two junctions operate at. If you engaged your loaf, then you'd also work out that the changing of the St Leonards lights will cause a natural break in the traffic that people can use to pull out of Queensville Avenue in any case.100s of people are working at Ariva on Fairway, are they all to go the long way round just because one or two selfish drivers don't like the fact they may get a cars length on them as they crawl up Queensville bridge!
I didn't say I never let people out. There are a small number of specific junctions that I don't.Floss67 said:So to say you never let ppl out is selfish and inconsiderate to other road users!
I read your post properly, & you are wrong. Quite clearly wrong. Queensville avenue traffic has little to no bearing on Lichfield roads already crawling traffic. If you closed Queensville avenue you would not go any faster along that road as you are stopped at every set of lights & the traffic is very heavy.henryscat said:No, rat running is not "leaving work". No, indeed it wouldn't solve everything, but it would help. It is a fact (not an opinion) that road capacity is affected by the junctions along it - amongst other factors, but junctions are a big one. You will find no evidence to the contrary, and no, you haven't read my post properly.cushT said:I read your post properly, & you are wrong. Quite clearly wrong. Quite clearly I am not deciding that. All I've said is that I think rat running is inconsiderate, and that at that junction I won't let people out. That does not amount to deciding who drives where. If people want to rat run, then what's wrong with expecting them to observe give way lines when they get to the exit point of their rat run?who are you to decide what road Ariva workers drive down? or any other road user for that matter?
Yes, people live along roads, quite a revalation. The Lichfield road also has residents, as do a lot of Staffords roads
This is the basis of you entire argument, "Won't somebody think of the residents?" If i'm wrong about this what exactly is your beef with so called rat running?henryscat said:No, indeed it wouldn't solve everything, but it would help. In crawling traffic I fail to see how letting cars out has ANY knock on effect on a road that is stopped at regular intervals with traffic lights. you are crawling, you will still be crawling. Contrary to what you believe, one does not have to stop or even slow to let someone out in such circumstances.

You won't let them out because of their road choice? You clearly have other ideas where you would rather them be. That much is clear in your posts. Including the back peddling ones!

You are right, It's futile. Nowt so queer as folk etc. In reality I care not how others go about their own business. Just how it should beFlibbertigibbet said:Oh my lord, if the most you have to worry about and bicker over is the state of 'traffic' in Stafford or any other place for that matter you must be very blessed.
At the end of the day it is the individuals choice whether or not to be considerate and patient, two virtues many do not possess.
It moves better because at the roundabout by queens retail the traffic splits in 3 directions (A34/Silkmore/Retail park) therefore flowing better.henryscat said:I would place money that Lichfield Road would flow better if Queensville Avenue were made a no through route - or even better if St Leonards Avenue was. Once past the turn for Spittal Brook, the queue moves a lot better.
Don't make me bring the data on how car use cannot realistically increase anymore, nor the data on how bus companies are basically cutting their own throats. See also speed bumps, rat runs, parking, etc. Its all already been posted here too many times, and I don't drive anymore.Floss67 said:Too many cars on thd road and not enough buses!
Think u did say it! on more than one occasion! Tell you what, Why don't you use your loaf and read what you have written!henryscat said:I didn't say I never let people out. !!!henryscat said:I never let people out of Friars Terrace onto Wolverhampton Road as most (although I admit not all) are just rat running from Newport Road. The other annoying one is Queensville Avenue coming out onto Lichfield Road, I never let anyone out of there either - so many people stop to let rat runners out that it must be having knock on effects and having adverse impact on traffic flow.
