Flappy bird

as you may be aware I was offering to sell my iPad mini when yesterday I was asked if I still had the original flappy bird on it, well yes I do I was then adviced of the ridiculous amounts this has been sold for on eBay. I'm guessing this isn't quite all what it seems and was wondering has anyone else heard this and I'm guessing it's a scam? Am I right?

i haven't looked into it, but i remember when the author of the game pulled it from the app store under much controversy there were reports of iphones / ipads which already had it installed being sold for silly amounts of money, due to people desperately wanting it and there being no way of getting it anymore!

see citations 5, 6, and 7 near the top of the wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flappy_Bird

What I don't understand is how they sold their devices with the game installed surely it would be on the persons account who's selling the phone so they would be selling the phone so people could possibly access their accounts or have I misunderstood how it works?

If connected via Facebook (others available) you would just log out of the game & the new owner would log in with their own details...

I've decided to recycle my iPad after Christmas anyway as I've upgraded so its going to get wiped regardless of value or not.

Only just seen this sorry, I've not heard of this process before it's over my head, as I'm not a user of waste book. Is it secure ?

As a general rule of thumb you'd want to perform a hard reset on your iPad before getting rid of it in whatever way. To ensure all your data is wiped and the iPad returned to factory settings.

Yes! Do a factory reset before it goes anywhere, this will also delete any other apps that you have bought/downloaded...

To wipe your iPad go to Settings ▸ General ▸ Erase All Content and Settings. You will then be asked to enter your passcode twice and confirm the erase. The iPad will then completely erase EVERYTHING on it and reboot to the set up screen. Don't re-enter any of your details, just switch it off using the power button. This will leave the iPad completely empty and ready for it's new owner.

Isn't there a way of selecting specific installed apps to be saved post the factory reset process, though? I lost my original flappy birds through a factory reset before i had properly thought everything through - had to do another and am sort of sure was given the option to do so.

Mind you i was not that sad to lose it - was determined to break 100, got 103, never played it again. Fear of those goddam tubes leads to anger, anger leads to hate, and hate leads to the potential throwing of pricey technological items to the no longer functioning side.

Nope, a factory reset is just that - completely wiped.

You should be be able to re-download the app by going to App Store ▸ Updates ▸ Purchased ▸ Not on this iPhone/iPad and then searching for it. You should then see the Cloud icon with a down arrow. Tap that to re-download.

The only apps which will be re-installed automatically are the standard apps which come with iOS.
