Try this; slice of buttered bread, sliced ox tongue, horseradish sauce, black pepper, sliced beetroot (not pickled), sliced red onion, more sliced ox tongue, slice of buttered bread, i like to call it sandwich heaven, best of all it goes well with any alcoholic drink......:xmas:

Quick tip:
When doing pork in slow cooker add about a desertspoon of sage & onion stuffing mix to the stock, makes a lovely savoury gravy.

Another cheap favourite of mine is belly pork...slow roast this puppy and it's so juicy and tender you're better off eating it with a spoon rather than a knife and fork. This is what I had in a restaurant on Friday night...as you can imagine, i'm slightly more rotund this week that last!
definitely have to agree with this.

im really not a fan of pork, but this cut is just too delicious to be missed.

my mum made a glorious dish with this cut and star anise and it had a lovely sticky glaze on it- ill try and get the recipe from her.

Just had the menu through for our office Christmas dinner tomorrow night and there it is, roast belly pork, get in!
Looks like sauteed lamb's kidneys for starter.
Anyone else on here partial to offal?

Mum used to do braised stuffed sheep's hearts, lovely. Once sliced and grilled a sheep's heart, tasted a bit like steak. Tandoori lamb's kidneys are OK on the barbecue too. When I used to work outdoors a lot diced ox heart fried and added to thick vegetable soup in a food flask always went down well in the winter months.
It's chitterlings season now too.

Sometimes, like tonight you canna beat grilled cheese on toast topped of with black pepper and either worcester sauce or a good quality brown sauce the Branston variety with the 'Branston Bite' is popular with me.......:xmas:

Ingredients,
3 Tomatoes
2 large onions
Natural Yoghurt
2 Jars of hot or medium (hot is good) old el paso salsa.
1 Large bag of Tangy chees doritos.
Grated Cheese

Chop tomatoes and onions (small)
Using a large oven proof pan, fry 1kg mince in a little oil until brown, then drain. Mix in some garlic and chilli flavours (your choice and preference to hotness) then mix in some tomato puree. Boil 500g penne pasta. When pasta and meat are cooked, mix together in the large pan. Layer the salsa over the meat, then the tomatoes, then onions. Pour over a layer of Natural yoghurt (to taste) then crunch up the Dorito's and add a layer over the yoghurt. Then layer with grated cheese, then another layer of Doritos then finish with a layer of cheese. Then cover (or the doritos will burn) and heat until piping hot.
I got this idea because the kids could never hold frajitas or Taco's without them breaking up and getting dinner all ovet the place. The kids and hubby love this and there is never any left in the pan.
Tip: Just keep on tasting the mince til you got it right. You can add the natural yoghurt after if you dont want to put it in.
You can leave out the pasta and doritos and use this in frajitas or taco's. You can chop chicken up very small and use it instead of mince if you prefer.

For anyone in an organic box scheme or an in-law/friend with an allotment finding themselves with beetroot they don't want to pickle:

Beetroot, peeled and cut into slices or wedges (amounts here don't really make much difference - depending on how many you're cooking for - assuming family size 1 large, 2 medium, 3 smallish - for more double the following)
Juice and rind of 1 lemon
1 or 2 cloves garlic, finely sliced
tbsp or so of EV olive oil
1/4 tsp ish sugar
salt 'n' pepper (push it real good)

Mix all together in oven-proof whatever you got, cover with lid or foil (depending on what you got) bake for 45mins -1hr, 180-200 C till tender (or longer till tenderer).

Great side for gammon or duck, or maybe even bold enough to be the centre of a veggy roast.

Sainsburys have bags of sweet potatoes @ £1 avge contents =6,... wash and dry a couple slice in half lengthways then slice again into wedges in an ovenproof tray toss wedges in a bit of oil, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper and if to hand a sprinkle of fresh thyme. put tray into hot oven, after 20mins check the wedges then again every 5mins. when they are to your liking remove and eat.....

Slow cooker yesterday.
2 lamb leg steaks cut up, 2 boned chicken thighs cut up, 1 slaska sausage sliced, 1 tin cannelini beans, 1 chopped carrot, 1 medium tater diced small, 1 onion finely chopped, two cloves garlic crushed. Stock made of two tblspoons tom puree, glug of red wine, black pepper, smoked paprika, 3/4 pint hot water.
Lamb had been bought previously when on offer and frozen, cracking cheap dinner last night with crusty bread and enough for lunch at work today.
